======================================================================== LAW BREAKERS by Don McClure ======================================================================== Summary: Jesus came to fulfill the law, not to destroy it, and he is the fulfillment of all the law and the prophets. Duration: 52:18 Topics: "Biblical Obedience", "Kingdom Living" Scripture References: Matthew 5:17-20, Matthew 6:33, Matthew 7:12, Matthew 7:21 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ DESCRIPTION ------------------------------------------------------------------------ In this sermon, the preacher discusses the presence of laws and standards in our lives. He emphasizes that these laws are not meant to be destroyed but fulfilled. He quotes from Matthew chapter 5, where Jesus states that not even the smallest part of the law will pass away until all is fulfilled. The preacher highlights the importance of obeying and teaching these commandments, as those who break them will be considered least in the kingdom of heaven, while those who do and teach them will be called great. He also mentions the expectation of these standards in various aspects of life, such as work and marriage. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CONTENT ------------------------------------------------------------------------ But tonight turn with me now if you would to Matthew chapter 5 as we continue on In the Sermon on the Mount beginning tonight in verse 17 of Matthew chapter 5 Think not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets. I am not come to destroy but to fulfill For verily I say unto you till heaven and earth passed one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law till all be fulfilled Whosoever there shall therefore shall break one of the least of these commandments and shall teach men So he should be called the least in the kingdom of heaven But whosoever shall do And teach them the same should be called great in the kingdom of heaven for I say unto you that except your righteousness Shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and the Pharisees ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven Let's pray and we'll look at this together Father first, we want to just come before you and just thank you that you love to speak to us Lord as we have just been singing Lord open my heart. I want to see you As we've asked you Lord We we want to have you open your word to give us words of wisdom that we may hear them and Lord I thank you that you love us so much. We know you will and also Lord is there closing out the conference? That Murrieta tonight Lord that you would just wonderfully bless Brian and John as they would share Lord that you would just anoint this time Lord so many wonderful missionaries Lord that have come out of this body They're all over the world Lord people that are supported by the people right here that give That are encouraged by their prayers Lord We just pray for them now that you'd refresh them bless them and Lord this tremendous work going on throughout the world That you would just continue it bless them father. Give them a wonderful evening and day tomorrow Before they head back to the these countries Lord, but bless them and minister to them in Jesus name. Amen Well here tonight we look at Jesus and the law an extremely important topic as we'll see as we get into this Particularly when you look at what Jesus has been saying so far for after he has given us to be attitudes and I trust You are not being frustrated or impatient with me that I kind of repeat these things each time but if there's one thing that I would love to have people learn and be able to Memorize are the processes in them and the message is essentially that we have here in each one of these Beatitudes each one a nugget of truth Building upon the other when there Jesus said blessed are the poor in spirit Blessed are they who mourn blessed are the meek? Blessed are they who hunger and thirst after righteousness they should be filled Blessed are the merciful blessed are the pure at heart blessed are the peacemakers and here is a yes Jesus has just been sharing a transformed life and I trust that you have been with us through these and realize the power when you put one of these Blessings one of these great keys to happiness. That's what the word blessed means. Remember. Oh, how happy Insatiably wonderfully happy is the person who knows these things the person that has been through the processes They've been there. They're poor in spirit. They're their own in internal life Of themselves their own strength their own hope it's been devastated They're utterly spiritually poverty stricken and they mourn over it and in that morning before God it turns into a wonderful meekness regard I don't deserve anything. I have the rights to nothing In fact, if you were to give me what I do deserve, I'd be annihilated. I'd be dust. I'd be powder. I'd be history But rather than that Lord, the wonderful thing is is that Jesus said blessed are they who hunger and thirst God? I'm so hungry for you If you would find in your heart to love me to forgive me to help me and even to fill me with yourself here Jesus the Transformed life is what he is talking about here a person now becoming merciful becoming a peacemaker becoming somebody that blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness sake and There when somebody that is they they're the life now they head out and they're so filled with Christ So the world didn't love Jesus and it doesn't you know, love those of his servants Jesus said And now we'll be reviled and we'll be persecuted Say all men are evil against us falsely and Jesus said rejoice and be exceedingly glad for it for so re you know Rejoice me exceeding that what's the rest of it? I can't you memorized it. But anyway, uh, I Get your job. I'm in the wrong book here. The winds blowing the mine away. But anyway, but the but But here then he goes on. He says you're the salt of the earth And now he looks at you says you are the salt of the earth Salt has lost its savor henceforth goods for nothing cast out and trodden in the foot of men You're the light of the world. And here is he looking at somebody now? He has just taken a life It's been a transformed life a redeemed life a restored life a regenerated life a resurrected life a Christian life and the Finest sense of the word he says I'm just simply telling you what a Christian is from the inside out from the top To the bottom. What is he what he is before God what he is before himself what he is before others and now as Jesus looking this season, you're the salt of the earth and you're the light of the world and Then it is somebody listening to this. You'd almost think where did this message come from? Never heard a thing like this. This is this a new religion Where in the world is he coming from and here Jesus now at this point? He's not really deviating from the subject but he is answering a lot of people that have to be sitting around listening saying what are you talking about and Here he turns because now they would you know, it's a there. I mean here. I thought you were a Hebrew I thought you were from Judaism. I thought you were out of our Hebrew roots. This is not what we have been hearing This is not what we understand to be the faith of our fathers. This sounds very new This sounds very very different in those so Jesus stops He said by the way, he says don't think or think not that I have come to destroy the law of the prophets I'm come to destroy but to fulfill and he says verily verily He says tell heaven and earth shall pass away. There'll not be one jot or one tittle of this law He says that'll all be fulfilled and he's looking there and he says what I am talking about here is Is the law and the prophets as he wants to make this very very clear Anybody that might be listening to this may be may be wondering. This is a new religion This is a new thing the scribes and the Pharisees that have been following Jesus and you know, he's been talking about love He's been talking about grace He's been talking about the goodness of God and Jesus had been attacked and attacked and attacked again and again Because the Pharisees came to him says this is not Judaism that all the people that were coming to Christ and following him and the common people in the sinners and the winebibbers and all these Masses numbers of people coming out listening to him preaching were loving him and he was telling them You know that this was God and the Jews were over there or the scribes and the Pharisees were beginning to attack him and saying Wait a minute. This is not the law This is not God's Word. This is what this is out of nowhere This is so different from everything that we're rooted in and folks you better realize this guy is a cult leader He's you look out for him and they had been accusing Jesus for a long time And now Jesus turned to me says by the way, he says what I'm talking about right here Right now he says this is not something there that I have not come to destroy the law of the prophets And he says I've not only not come to destroy I have come to fulfill it as a matter of fact There won't be one jot or one tittle now that is the equivalent to us almost like the littlest teeny little you know, period or comma a Jot or tittle in Hebrew writing was something there that when the the scribes would be writing it down This was just that this the slightest little mark there the slightest little, you know touch You know the pen there that would just give he says not only I'm gonna get all the law and all the prophets He says there won't be the slightest Aspect of all of the law and all of the prophets that will not be fulfilled and is not fulfilled in what I'm telling you about This is an absolute fulfillment of the law and of the prophets And the word there when Jesus said not only I have not come there to destroy but to fulfill the word there fulfilled in The Greek it means abundantly supply Jesus said what this is is this is the perfect abundant total supply of all of the law and the prophets all of it and Here, you know when you look at this here Jesus and I am here to abundantly supply everything that the law was ever about ever trying to say and When you and I by the way when we're talking about the law when they're talking about the law you got to realize this is quite a quite an extensive piece of information To the Jews the law. I mean it had a very broad sense of it First of all, there was just the Ten Commandments You know as as we know them and they're within the Ten Commandments There is given, you know out there and of course in the book of Exodus that of course is a portion of the law It's the basis so much of the law But then there's also the Levitical law in there which shows all the ceremonial law The of the law of how man came before God and approached God There the tabernacle was laid out in the structure and the principles and the standards for the priesthood and the Sacrifices and all the processes of what sacrifice would be required under the law depending on the sin or the problem or whether what it was that you were doing or dedication or Consecration or a burnt offering and all of these were part of the law. They were the Levitical law They were the ways of approaching God when you had failed somewhere in the Ten Commandments When there had been one portion of the law there of the legal law or the Ten Commandment law that had not been fulfilled Well, there was then the ceremonial law the Levitical law that now how you you fulfilled this these laws in a sense Too because you had failed in one of these this one atoned or forgave or put you right with The law that you had failed in so these were laws Then there's also the civil law and There's quite a bit of that in the first five books of Moses as we called them the Pentateuch the books of history But in there are part of the books of the law, but in the books of the law, they're the first five books There's also the the civil law and there there's quite a bit written on many many chapters on just civil law of just simply They're and buying selling trading doing business What happened if somebody had done something wrong to a person an eye for an eye or a tooth for a tooth or whatever the Standard on the judges the judicial law and you see when the children of Israel, you know when they looked at their law It was all a spiritual world in a sense because God set up their laws the children of Israel are a nation under God Set aside and he set all their laws moral law civil law, you know spiritual law, but it all encompassed to them the law The things of God and here Jesus is telling them he says when I have come here He says I am here to fulfill the law and that's the broadest sense in the concept of the word I am the fulfillment of all of it every bit of it every jot every tittle of it every comma every period of It and as he looks at this and he and he says and not only there is in the sense of the law But also as he says they're of the prophets There's something here as Jesus, you know looks at this and not only I've not come to destroy all that error to fulfill To destroy the law and the prophets. I am here to fulfill it all And here of course, you've got the law there that was set up the standards of life the spiritual life the ethical moral Ceremonial civil life and laws there and then throughout so much of the Old Testament You've got the prophets usually broken down in the major prophets or the minor and the minor prophets but essentially the prophets were all of these people that came in at different times through Israel's history and exhorted the people in Some aspect of the law that they were not fulfilling Constantly telling them you've got to get back to God You've got to get back to the ceremonial all the spiritual law the Levitical law the moral law the ethical the ethical or the civil law or some aspect to where they were living lawlessly and the prophets came and said get back to your roots get back to where you belong you're failing and Trying to bring them back into a right relationship with God and here the the Pharisees were telling Jesus You do not hear you you're with the law and the prophets the whole route and the Foundation of Judaism and of what we are all about and what began with Abraham was carried on through history They're looking at him. So I don't know what you're talking about. But this is for and us And Jesus came lines and not only this is what I am is not for and he says I will fulfill all of it Everything in the law that isn't right and all of the messages and desires and fulfillment of the prophets. I am the fulfillment of it all And of course which he was Essentially, we haven't of course got time to do it tonight But the book of Hebrews is about that's that is one of the things that the book of Hebrews was was all written for was all about in the early church The these people that were coming to Christ in these massive numbers the Judaizers They were now running out and saying wait a minute. What are you doing? You're leaving Judaism next, you know, they weren't at the temple They weren't offering sacrifices. They were worshiping on the first day of the week celebrating the resurrection of Christ They were doing all of these things and their freedom that they were finding in Christ and the Judaizers were going out and they were Telling all these Hebrew converts to Christianity. What are you doing? What are you leaving the law and the prophets for? What are you leaving Judaism for and their great argument was is did not God? Jehovah who you purport to now know better than ever did he not actually give us the law Didn't he give us Moses? Yeah, he did didn't he did not God give Moses the law there on the you know, Mount Sinai Yeah, he did and didn't he give us Moses there Joshua there that brought us into the land after jump Moses took them out Yeah, God did do that Well, didn't God also give us the ceremonial law didn't he give us all these sacrifices? Yeah, he did Well, then how can you leave this? All right, if you want to believe in Jesus We're we'll discuss that later, but get back to the temple at least Get back into fellowship with Judaism You can't leave this and that was one of the great aspects and the reasons fundamentally that the book of Hebrews was written That's why the book of Hebrews and it's a wonderful book But essentially there it is it begins God who at sundry times in diverse manners spaken unto us by his prophets It says now hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son There who being in the brightness of his glory and the express image of his purpose of his person In Hebrews chapter 1 it says upholding all things by the word of his power He says when he had by himself purged by our sins and he sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high and then He says and being so much better than angels The writer of Hebrews he says, you know God at sundry times in diverse manners. He was speaking into us always speaking into us different times different ways through the law and through the prophets and through all of these different things now half in these last days spoken Us by his son there is and he says whom he hath appointed heir of all things by whom also he made the worlds who being in the brightness of his glory the express image of his person when he purged himself our sin sat down at the right hand the majesty on high and he says and he is better than angels and then Systematically the writer of Hebrews spends the entire book Saying that Jesus Christ is better Than anybody and anything that we ever had in Judaism Simply because he is the fulfillment of all of them He starts off better than angels in chapter 1 there simply because to the Jews angels Were highly thought of hundreds of times are mentioned in the Bible They dispensed the law and they watched over men and they had a huge spiritual ministry They're still do of course, but they're the Jews thought very highly of angels but then he goes on and he says but you would do you that Jesus is thought far more of by the Father than an angel for God looks there at him He says thou art my son this day have I begotten thee to which angel did he ever say that Jesus is better than angels And then he goes on and he says and he is better than Moses He says he that builded the house, you know You know Maybe there is is the one that was actually behind The one who said I am that I am to Moses Moses came out and did things but the one who spoke to Moses was Christ He is the I am He was the one there in the burning bush. He was the one there that did all of the work He brought the plagues Moses did he did some pretty fancy stuff. No question But actually he did nothing but what he was told and when he did what he was told Jesus was the one doing it and Then he goes on and he says Joshua. He was a wonderful guy, but he didn't bring him in there a real rest Christ will do that He goes and then he talks about Aaron and the high priesthood of Aaron. He says Aaron was a wonderful guy he did a lot of great stuff and he took the children of Israel through the veil and in there at the You know at the Passover and presented them to God But when Christ came and died on the cross the veil was rent and was opened up and now all of us Jesus Christ our high Priest he's better than Moses. He's better than Joshua He's better than Aaron and all the sacrifices that there ever were if the blood of bulls and goats could ever make anybody clean Wonderful, but it didn't It wasn't until finally Christ blood his offering was sufficient for everything and everyone He is better than all of these things because he is the fulfillment of them. And when you have the real one In your presence, you don't need the shadow You don't need the allegory you don't need this story that was there to prepare the way for when he would come for Christ is the fulfillment of all of these things and There is the sacrifice. He's the high priest He's the one that leads us out of bondage like Moses and the one that leads us into rest like Joshua He's the fulfillment of all of these things and here Jesus when he turns and he tells us there He says I haven't come to destroy the law the prophets. I'm the one that gave them to you. I Anointed the law. I gave the law. I know I did the prophets. I sent him to say what they had to say But I am the fulfillment of it and the wonderful thing here when somebody begins to realize There that that the law, you know that you may see you know Then when it had a great place make no mistake about it But as Paul says in Galatians 3 verse 20 Paul says wherefore the law is Our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ that we may be justified by faith For after that faith has come we no longer are under a schoolmaster here Paul said the law was something that was very wonderful, but it wasn't but but it didn't do the job It was merely a schoolmaster to bring us to a place where I realized I need somebody. I Need you know somebody to help me to love me to strengthen me to forgive me to atone for me to lead me I need somebody in my life that just as the children of Israel needed a sacrifice I do just as they needed to deliver out of bondage I needed to deliver just as they needed somebody to bring them into rest into the promised land I need somebody that'll bring me into rest just as they needed a high priest I need a high priest and all of these things. They're the law. They were a schoolmaster There were things there that somebody who sat under these things They came to the realization. I Need all of these things in my life To be working in my life So the law on one hand it sets a standard that shows us the that we have sinned it shows us we have failed When you look there at the law and you look at the Ten Commandments All you have to do is read him, you know And and and here when the Lord says you'll have no other gods before me. You'll have no graven image There when he looks at them, he says, you know there he says thou shalt not kill You know thou shalt not covet Thou shalt not bear false witness with one thing after another when he said don't do this when you realize. Oh As the Bible tells us if a man hates his brother, he's murdered And this is how should I commit adultery the Bible says there and makes it clear there that adultery isn't merely a physical act if you Think it's your heart. Jesus said if a man lusts after a woman He committed adultery The next thing, you know, the law is something there is the as Paul writes about the law And condemned him the law brought him the more he understood the law and Jesus there as he says I'm not here to destroy the law The law is a great friend in the sense that it shows us we need Christ It is a schoolmaster as Paul said to bring us to Christ Now the interesting thing is is that men we live in a world today all of us, you know We live in a world of laws, too We have all these laws around us whether you know We we know it or not We set standards all the time anytime a standard is a behavior is set whether I said it or somebody else sets it And anytime it's just a standard anytime it's set and then I fail it I'm guilty all the time It's interesting Paul in 1st Corinthians 15 56 Paul said this that the sting of death is sin and the strength of sin is the law Here Paul says this this think of this the sting of death is sin What did it what brings the death the sting of it is sin? But what gives the sin its strength there is a law In other words what tells me I have sinned what makes me guilty what pronounces me guilty But just like the children of Israel They had all of these different laws whether it was the Ten Commandments the ceremonial law the civil law The you know all the the you know The human laws that they set up all of which were done spiritually and if you fail in any one of these The sting of death is sin and the strength of sin is the law And he says what it actually there what what is really happening is that what it is that gives sin its great ability to condemn Me is the law There was no law. That's why a lot of people hate the law They want to say there's nothing wrong with us There's nothing wrong with all these stupid laws that people set up They're just there to make people feel bad if we could just get rid of the law Everything would be great. We'd all be happy and Yet at the same time wherever we are. We always are setting up laws for ourselves standards All these time we set up a few I wonder how many of us even in our own lives tonight You've got all sorts of laws whether you know it or not that you set up for yourself standards promises Commitments to do better to try harder. How many times is a Christian? I wonder many of us that maybe some of us, you know, we felt bad and Lord I failed you and I've let you down and I've really done terrible God, please forgive me I'm just such a terrible sinner, but God if you will forgive me and Lord If you will just find in your heart, let me come back home and just to love you and to worship you and walk me I promise I'll never fail you again You know, we come as if you know, what do you think? You know sort of a thing we set these Standards we make these promises. I'll never let you down again Lord. You'll be so happy And you know with me or I'll never you know, Lord, I I'll never you know, I really blew it with my wife I got angry. I you know, I kicked the door and Lord if you'll forgive me I'll never ever ever kick the door again, you know, or whatever it is, but we make these standards That we can't keep We're like this story, you know, I'm sure you've heard of the little kid. They're a little Catholic boy there. You know, he found himself You know one day he realized he wanted a bicycle for Christmas And he wanted this bicycle so bad and he sits down and he says dear Jesus he writes him a letter Jesus if I can have a new bicycle, I Promise you I'll never sin again Well, he looks at that for a moment. You really well, I don't think you're gonna go for that, you know I'm blogging Lord. I promise if you give me new bicycle I'll make my bed and I'll clean up my room and I'll never talk back to my mother again Maybe you know he thinks about that and he realizes no the Lord's not gonna believe that He looks over and he sees there on the shelf. There's a statue of Mary He looks at that for a moment and he goes over and he gets the statue of Mary and he goes and he gets one of his shirts And he wraps up the statue of Mary and he puts it in his drawer And he shuts the drawer and he sits down. He writes a letter dear Jesus if you ever want to see your mother again But all the time we're making these promises, you know Some way that we can get God to bless us some way that we're gonna have him work You know for us or something and then we'll make these new promises and but every time we set a promise You know, we don't I'd wonder how many of us have rededicated our lives to the Lord at different times It may be done a few times. So you really rededicated the previous Recommitment, you know or something in the Lord if you'll forgive me this time I know I rededicated my life and I recommitted the previous dedicated commitment new commitment freshly But if now I can really rededicate it this time. I'll really be good But the interesting thing is is it here Paul? He says they're Satan who is the accused of the brethren every time I make a promise every time I tell God how good I'll be And how hard I'll try and the new standard I'll keep and on and the law that I will have all I actually do is I give sin its strength to condemn me because the strength of sin is a law or the standard or the behavior I promise to live I will keep this behavior if I can get right We do that with each other You know if you'll forgive me if you'll give me another chance. I promise you I Will and then we fill in the blanks that we think they'll sell out for you know Whatever we can make each other to agree on these things here will be the new standard of our relationship Here's the new standard of the home Here's the new standard of my life or my job or of my moral standard or my ethical stand I'll never lie to you again, if you'll forgive me and we set all these standards that are based on what? us Our ability to keep our law any law that is set up be it civil Spiritual you know Whatever it is that is established We have them we live by them and all that really does is give Satan the opportunity now to come and condemn us later on What gives the sin its strength is the law or the standard because now when I blow it he comes back And he says look at you so often You know we go and we make a promise and we feel really good when we're making promise everybody You know make this promise, and we're happy come from rededicate your life to the Lord tonight Tell him you're gonna really do good if he gives you another chance and hope what you God forgive me I promise and we do these things and we all sing together and people come forward and we think angels are in heaven flapping their wings and joy over the thing and Jesus is looking at this thing Wow is this great or what they're making a new promise a New thing that they're lying about you know or whatever they because he knows we cannot do it and Here Jesus said listen There is a fulfillment of all law all law all standards. I Am it I am here not simply to fulfill it that word there literally is the reward it means to replace it the law Turn with me if you would to Romans chapter 7 I Want us to look at this because it's so powerful, but in Romans 7 Paul writes he says no you're not brethren for I speak of them that know the law And he says how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth Romans 7 2 for the woman which has a husband is buoyant is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth But if the husband be dead she is looser in the law of her husband So then while her husband liveth she be married to another man. She should be called an adulteress But if the husband be dead she is free from the law so that she is no adulteress although she be married to another man Wherefore my brethren be ye also are become dead by the law to the body of Christ that she should be married to another Even to him who is raised from the dead that Christ Pardon me that we should bring forth fruit to God For when we were in the flesh the motions of sin, which were by the law did work in our members bringing forth fruit unto death But now we are delivered from the law that being dead wherein we are held We should serve in newness of spirit and not the oldness of the letter And down in verse 9 he says I was alive once without the law But when the commandment came sin revived and I died and the commandment There which was ordained it to life. I found to be unto death in verse 12 He says wherefore the law is holy and the commandment is holy just and good Here on one hand what Paul he gives this wonderful illustration in the middle of this of a marriage As he talks there and he says for the woman which has a husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he lives and Then Paul gives this wonderful illustration to me a tremendous illustration and in here and essentially to me when he does is he ladies and perk your ears up listen to this Because Paul introduces us to every woman here to the man of her dreams In this chapter you you can marry him to his name is. Mr. Law Essentially and mr. Laws miss Paul defines him here. He is an incredible man He is an unbelievable husband as he says there in verse 12. He is holy. He is just and good He's mr. Law and it's mr. Law. He loves God. He loves man. He is perfect. He has depth He has character. He has wisdom. He has integrity. He has goodness. He is totally moral. He is totally ethical He is totally faithful. He is totally honest to the nth degree. He is perfect He's the most unbelievable husband you could ever dream of. He's perfect in all of his ways He's a flawless gentleman. His behavior was without error and mr. Law. He's available You can marry him if you want to and you might say well who wouldn't And so you do and you marry him, but then after you get married you find he has one little irritating quality about him That kind of drives you nuts Makes you totally miserable as a matter of fact, and that is that he expects the same behavior of his wife That he has turned for a moment quickly if you would over to Galatians 310 Here in Galatians 310 Paul writes. He says for as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse For it is written cursed is everyone that continueth not in all which are written in the book of the law To do them in Other words here Paul on one hand though. He says, you know, you can marry the law and the laws holy just and good here This mr. Law. He is the most incredible husband in the world. This is the guy on the wedding cake. He is beautiful He is flawless. He is without error without sin he is unbelievable the only problem is is he expects the same thing from his wife and he Cursed is everyone that continues not in all the things that are written in the law to do them He has this nasty habit of Expecting the same thing from mrs. Law Son comes up and with that mr. Law He wakes up in the morning and he bounces out of bed and he is perfect He's bought not a Harris out of play. This breath is perfect. The guy is dressed flawlessly there. He slept all night There's not a so much as a wrinkle in his suit, you know And his tie is flawless and he is just perfect in every single way He's holy and he's just and he's good and then as he springs out of bed I mean this guy is more woman's dream in a sense then even before he goes I mean, he's got a perfect home and a perfect family and perfect children, but he leaves him in charge of his wife He says now honey. I want you to take care of these perfect children I want them to be dressed perfectly and I want them to behave perfectly and I want the house perfect I don't want any dirt. I want don't have any dust. I want the house immaculately cleaned I want the clothes washed and ironed and creased flawlessly when I get home And then he comes home at the end of the day and he looks around the kids are a little out of sorts a little messy Little dirty there's found some dust on the you know, the table looks at this thing and he says curse you my dear Curse you curse you curse you you did not fulfill the law You you go to eat the food and it's not perfect There's wrinkles in your outfit and you're a little haggled trying to keep these children perfect, but you didn't quite do it He looks at you and he says not good enough. My dear curse you to your face You know, you're a condemned woman. I mean as wonderful as he is He's got this nasty habit of cursing his wife and making her feel utterly insufficient and totally guilty And here as wonderful as this marriage started out it wasn't there was anything wrong with mr Law was just that mrs. Law couldn't keep it up. That's what Paul is saying here The law is holy just and good and he says but he says I know that the law is spiritual He says but I'm carnal sold under sin and the problem is with me But as Paul tells us here to go back there in verse 2 He says the woman which has a husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth by the husband be dead She is loosed from the law of her husband Paul said, you know, one of the most wonderful things that it all you could ever dream of happened to this woman one day She woke up one morning and she was shocked because she actually woke up before mr. Law never happened before In fact, she looked over at him and there he lay absolutely perfect hair totally not out area and everything in place suit on impeccable the guy was Absolutely there. She looked at him. Everything was perfect. But one other thing she noticed he was also perfectly Dead It was the greatest day in her life He died She looked at this thing. This is what Paul is saying there He says for if then while the husband lives she'd be married to another man. She'll be called an adulterer But if her husband is dead She is free from that law so that she is no adulterous though She'd be married to another man And he says wherefore my brethren Ye also are become dead by the law of the body of Christ that she should be married to another even to him who was Raised from the dead that ye should bring forth fruit unto God Here Jesus when he says think not that I have come to destroy the law of the prophet I'm not here to destroy it, but I am here to replace it I'm here to fulfill it That which condemned and condemned and condemned you because you never because of who you were and it just woke up every day Condemn you condemn you condemn you curse you curse you curse you now the most wonderful thing in all the world you could ever imagine begins to happen is That now instead of waking up and being cursed and being convicted and being condemned Now all of a sudden instead of being married to mr. Law. She is married to mr. Grace Who now instead there and when he wakes up in the morning? He has this loving way of reaching over to wake up mrs. Law And saying to her come unto me all you laboring or heavy laden I'll give you rest My burden is light my yoke is easy for I'm meek and lowly of heart He looks over there at his wife at the law at mrs. Law who is now mrs. Grace because mr. Laws died and she is now free to be married to another and Married to Christ because she is now broken off the relationship with the dead husband. He's gone She's free of him and now she is free to be married to another and here Jesus said I am not simply the fulfillment I am the replacement of the law I'm the replacement of all the standards all the behavior all of the Stuff that you are that you structurally seem to try to live by to fulfill all the time that have never been able to do it before for here there is something that now he turns and Instead of telling us how to go out and how to live in and setting all this standard in the structure He goes with us. He says I'll never leave you forsake you I'll be with you always into the end to the age and everything I would ever ask of you. I'll do through you I'll do it in you by my grace By might nor by power, but by by spirit saith the Lord here Jesus looks at us and he says drop the law Drop it. You see we live by laws all day and they condemn us. I Wonder how many of you by the time you just got to church tonight You're condemned just driving Because there's laws out there And there's laws that condemned you all the way to church You say here I'm going to church and I'm gonna have to first just ask for forgiveness for the way I got to church Because you violated laws You know, you ran people off the road. They're hurt. They're wounded because of you. They're confused They used Wonderful gestures to tell you what they thought of you when you went by or whatever else and they were they you know You you disturbed their life. They disturbed yours or whatever else because loss And it's you can't keep your life as you go You know, you thought you watch a football game and here you see there's two things going on There's people on one hand are trying to win but all the time there's these laws There's these rules there's these standards these laws you got to play the game this way and if you don't play this game not only We get we go back But you're gonna lose yardage and lose a ground, you know ground on this whole thing because because the fact you went over all over The line before the ball was hiked and that was all sides or you held the guy when he tried to get by you and that's Holding or you interfere with the guy when he tried to catch them all or you tripped a guy because you didn't have the time To try to block him or whatever else but you cheated and you broke the rules And we have all of these virtually everything we do in society you go to work there's rules a Lot of you you got these jobs and you didn't in these jobs are terrible jobs. They got these rules. They say come to work You know you use every day. Yes Every day. In fact, we're gonna have this little clock there That's gonna decide if you did it and it's gonna take a picture of you too And you're gonna put your number in your card in there and you're gonna give them a blood sample and everything else or whatever else I know you were there and then we're gonna check out our how'd your work and how much productivity you had and if you didn't do Good, we will concurse you to your face and fire you too, you know, or whatever else But you've got all these standards and we have standards in our marriages standards in our own All these rules are moral laws. They're ethical laws And we don't like them they're terrible in one sense, but you but they're a schoolmaster Society has to have them because when you do get rid of them, which most people want them gone You ever see you know These like the helicopter pictures that they'll take when there's a riot and there's a little momentary disbanding of the law The law is gone. We got rid of the law for 20 minutes or something. They're out of town in the meantime There's a camera out there and you see these normal law-abiding citizens assume all of a sudden they're bashing in store windows Climbing through coming out with television sets coming anything they can grab clothes that are don't fit them We don't care. I want to steal. I just have been wanting it to do it my whole life and the laws gone I'm just stealing a TV that doesn't work out of a repair store or whatever. They don't know they don't care they just the thrill of breaking the law There's a great thrill to it we love to break the law We love to do things that just kind of there's an adrenaline thrice And so often there's because the law though it tells you this is the woman you married and this is the man you're married to And this is how you're gonna behave and yet sometimes a guy, you know when you're under scrutiny and the laws there and it's watching you But see you good So you get out of town and you're on a business trip and there are the temptation There's all of a sudden some women sitting over there who looks like she might want to break the law, too And you're thinking there are these things. Hey, there's no law around here and you're in trouble and Here the thing is is that either we live under this it condemns us all the time. We go to work We're making out our taxes. We're paying our bills We're doing all these other things that just say curse you curse you curse you You're not what you think you are what you want people to think you are because you would break them if you could and that Is our nature? until We are married to another who says I can fulfill it in you all the law The moral law the ethical law the spiritual law the law of heaven the law of earth every law. I Can take you that there but you have give you a heart and a love for your husband Love your wife not a not a commandment in order that you're saddled with each other The commitment that you made but I can give you a love I can I can give you all you need there to care for Your children not out of law not of eat eating or out of moral You know law of the land that you better take care of this kid till they're 18 or you're a poor parent but something there of God I God listen Jesus said if you will let me be your husband and Replace the laws and the standards I can instead of going home tonight and having a look in your rearview mirror Instead of looking that that says why you're breaking the law look at me When you go home tonight instead of having okay God when I go home. I'm gonna tell my wife. I'm really sorry, honey Please forgive it. Just be quiet. Just look at me. I'll go home with you and let me talk to her She's I just want to use your mouth I'll say some incredible things if you'll give up and let me say it and you may think whoa I'd do I'd where I'm gonna get the power to do that. I'll give you the power And I'll thrill her in you Because it won't be a standard you can't keep because you're indwelt by a person Who threw the Beatitudes when you were poor in spirit and you mourned over it and you became me and you were hungry and thirsty? And you were filled you were filled with a life and a power you had no idea what it was all about And he says I'm not here to destroy the law of the prophets I'm here to fulfill it Everything that we always dream could happen in a man in the law and in the prophets that the law could never do because it was Weak I can do by my spirit If you'll let me be your husband, but you got to break off the relationship with the dead law You've got to love me more than it forget the standards. You will look you will fulfill those things by coincidence The amazing thing is one time Jesus when they're talking about the law and the Pharisees and the and the scribes and all these arguments And things going on Jesus there He looked and he says thou shall love the Lord thy God with all the heart mind soul and the strength and thou shall love thy Neighbor as thyself for in this lies all the law in the prophets Here essentially every law that there really is that's worth it Every law that there is in all the world comes down to two things and what they're all about loving God and loving others and That if you are loving God and loving others you wouldn't have there wouldn't have to be all these You know signs everywhere telling you whose turn it is when you got to a signal He would sit there. Well, I love them. I love more to me you go No, you go. No you go, you know, I'm a better Christian than you So you go yes, but I'm trying to be one. Well, maybe that wouldn't work out I don't know if we'd have another problem But I mean if there was something there that we where we where we did if there wouldn't have to be laws You will not steal if you can you walk out of here and there you there's a wallet Sitting in a pew that was left there and you walk out and you see the senior over the wall just $500 in the wallet He said there they go. My Jesus you provided. Thank you. Bless you. You're so wonderful You know on things in the I've been praying that this would happen you sort of a thing But if you but if you loved your neighbor as yourself He said the Wow, this is so exciting or somebody that I love as I love me lost $500 I was so thrilling I get to be the one to go get this cake. It's what I found Maybe it's not maybe see if his license is here an address or a phone number. This is so exciting. I gained a friend all laws That are decent laws are simply loving God and loving others Augustine once said love God with all your heart and do what you please Hear Jesus there, I mean he's saying you love me. I'll fulfill the law and the prophets You make me the object of your affection You seek me first. You'll have all these other things fulfilled. You won't have to worry about how am I gonna go home and love? My wife, how am I gonna care for my husband or love my children? How am I gonna handle the things at the office? How am I gonna be a good employer or employee you love God and you love the people you work with? You let Christ be the law the person the being there that doesn't just simply set a standard he fulfills the step the standard he sets and Then when you fit then when you fail and you will When you fail, it won't be a law you standard you failed It will be a person you let down and so you won't run back to be cursed You'll run back to say Lord. What did I do? I'm in trouble. I forgot you. I took my eyes off you Forgive me Let's get right. I missed you all day Instead of the old man when I told God I'd be at this wonderful person and look at me No, you'll still be the same person Left without him as we all are our righteousness is as filthy rags Our best efforts will never do it But when his righteousness and I'm letting him fill me when that's the standard then I've got it And I'm gonna close it there I'll finish it next week but here The one thing they're just to close this Jesus said accept your righteousness Succeed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees. You'll no case enter the kingdom of heaven He looks there and he says listen He said you look at those standards you look at the people living by the law and the ceremonial law and the Levitical law and who fast three times a week and who pray there and do this and do that and they're trying so hard to fulfill a standard first of all, they don't do it and Your righteousness because they would sit there and say how could I ever be as good as this righteous as ascribed in the Pharisees? My righteousness got to be better than theirs Jesus said sure does because they're married to the law who still condemns them because cursed it is everyone that Continueth not in all that is written in the law both to do them. In other words, you only fail once you're cursed And here Jesus said you better do better than they do and Somebody like say I could never do better than they do. He says precisely Because they're phonies themselves they're hypocrites But when Jesus he says you let me Be the one that's the focus when you're going to go to work with me tomorrow. Go home with me tonight Let me help you with the children Let me be the one that is the object of your affection and you will then look there and realize all that was fulfilled And then when it isn't you realize Lord, what did I not grasp with you? Of your love or of your power Tonight maybe some of you came in here married to mr. Law You got all these standards, maybe some of you even nudging in a story. Hey, hey, you know Sorry, I don't want to get into that one But so often we're even condemned by one another You're not good enough, but oh when we find ourselves turning the Lord and say Lord, I know I'm not good enough I feel it But if you fulfilled the law and the prophets Fulfill it me. I just out there that didn't do it in my heart Be the object of my affection and when I see failure And when I the law there may it always be just a schoolmaster to drive me right back to you To bring me to Christ and then as soon as my faith is there back in you the law as Paul says no longer of Nessar it only falls into place as soon as I break off fellowship with the right husband the dead one comes back And he's looking at me condemn you curse you and then when I told how do I get rid of it run back Jesus I took my eyes off you said yes, you did. So I sent the dead guy back For you to look back to me again. I Let him curse you only so you'd come and want my mercy in my life, isn't that wonderful Father we just thank you for your love and your goodness And I just pray that you would just take your word even tonight to our in our life Jesus may you truly be the object of our affections the love of our life May you not just be the fulfillment technically, but Lord the total replacement of all standards in our life Lord if we'd get up tomorrow say Lord, I'm getting up with you To sit with you to open my heart with you to open your word To ask you just have the right place and then Lord take me to work take me before the family Take me before my loved ones. Take me out on the freeway Take me wherever I got to go But Lord, I want to go with you and then Lord when something comes and tells me I've offended God or man I haven't loved the Lord or I haven't loved another as myself and I'm convicted by it May I just turn to you and say Lord help me forgive me Instead of trying harder and making promises. I just want to get back to loving you Looking to you Lord. Jesus. May you truly be the object of our affection In your name we pray Jesus Amen ======================================================================== Audio: https://sermonindex1.b-cdn.net/8/SID8724.mp3 Source: https://sermonindex.net/speakers/don-mcclure/law-breakers/ ========================================================================
