It discusses yielding our free will to become bond slaves of Jesus, choosing to be marked by Him. The sermon also delves into the consequences of pride and rebellion, drawing parallels between Lucifer's fall and the need for humility and obedience in our lives. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ CONTENT ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thank you, Lord, for today, that this is a day you've made, Lord, we rejoice and we're glad in it. Let's pray that you would speak, continue to speak, Lord, and be glorified in Jesus' name, amen. It's not easy to understand the Lord's ways in our life, and sometimes there's a way that seems right to a man, but the end of it is destruction. Aline was sharing about Jesus going to the cross, and I think of how we sing this song sometimes, like a rose trampled upon the ground, he took the fall and thought of me above all. And it speaks about us having the fragrance of Christ in every place. And the best way for us to have a good fragrance of Christ is when we get pressed. But it's not pleasant to be pressed, it's not joyful to be squeezed. You know, whenever I see someone cutting an orange and squeezing it into a juice, I think of that example, that there's anticipation of this wonderful, sweet, freshly squeezed orange juice, and no one ever thinks about the crushing of that orange in order to bring out that sweetness. And that's really what Jesus did. He allowed himself to be crushed, to be pressed, to bring out that sweetness. And so he's given us also this example that we should follow in his steps. Jesus was wrestling in the Garden of Gethsemane, saying, Lord, if possible, take this cup from me. He had a flesh and a nature that didn't want to suffer, but yet he yielded himself, nevertheless not my will, but the Father's will be done. That's one thing that God has given every one of us. You know, what can you give to God? You know, when we come to him in repentance, we come to him in submission, the only thing that we can give him is our will. That's what he's given you. It's your free will, and he doesn't take it from you. If you choose to follow the Lord, you put your ear to the doorpost, and you choose to become a bond slave of Jesus Christ, to say, I'm forever yours. It's your choice. You can go free. But you can then say, no, I'm going to stay in my master's house, and I'm going to serve him. And you willingly put your ear to the doorpost, and let him put the all to it, to mark you, to brand you with the marks of the Lord Jesus. You know, we think of the rose trampled on the ground. He took the fall. Sometimes I go different places, and I see beautiful rose bushes, or we go to butcher gardens, and we see them, and I'll sneak in sometimes, and I'll grab one of the petals, and I'll squeeze it in my fingers, and I'll smell it, and when you rub the petals and crush the petals in your fingers, it brings forth a fragrance, a strong aroma of beauty. That's what we see when we see Christ, suffering on the cross, a strong fragrance of love pouring forth from him, even as Brother Alin shared, mindful of his mother, a godly woman, probably the most godly on the face of the earth at that time when she was chosen, blessed among women, feared God, not full of demons, feared God. He was interested in taking care of his mother, even while he was being crushed on the cross. He says for us that we should have the fragrance of Christ, to be the fragrance of Christ in every place. And that fragrance takes on different aromas to different people. You know, to some who've seen him there being crushed, it was, they stood far off, as Brother Alin shared, and it was too much for them. But others got up close, and it was for them a sweet savor of love, a sacrifice of love. And it speaks of the fragrance of Christ, it says we are to God the fragrance of Christ in every place. To the one, a fragrance of death to death, to the other, a fragrance of life to life. I won't get into the teachings of that today, this morning, but we have an understanding that to those who are suffering, when we get together and we share, those of us who fear the Lord and we talk to one another, we share the sufferings of Christ, but there is a hope of the glories that will follow. And so we cry together and we're going through things and we seek the Lord together and we seek to overcome together, because it's not easy. But then when we leave that place and we get out into the world, people see Jesus in our face. People can experience the love of God, they come into our midst, into our circle, into our family, they see something different, they see Christ, they see something that attracts them to Christ. And that's what we want to be. We want to be a fragrance of Christ among those who are perishing, but among us, who are being saved through the power of God. It has to be so, that we're pressed on all sides, but not crushed, that we sometimes get perplexed, what's going on, but we're not in despair, because we're always caring about in this body, the dying of the Lord Jesus. Because as Jesus went out from Gethsemane and decided that he was going to bear his cross, he's called every one of us who want to be his disciples to bear his cross and follow him. But you know, we want to be accepted everywhere. We want to be esteemed. But Jesus was made a public spectacle in front of all these people. But yet he defeated the enemy when he triumphed in death. And he says of the enemy, that the enemy is the one who became the public spectacle. And he triumphed over him in it. The enemy doesn't understand the way of the cross. The world doesn't understand the way of the cross. It's foolishness to them, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God, yielding your will as Jesus yielded his will. All to Jesus, I surrender all to him, I freely give, in whatever facet of capacity of life it is. Your time, your money, your assets, your children, your life, your will, it all encompasses surrendering your will to him. You know, the Holy Spirit convicts, maybe I should put some money in the box. Nevertheless, not my will, I was thinking of spending it on some steaks at Costco, but I'll give it for another purpose. I'll surrender. It's always about surrendering your will in every facet of life. Should I do the right thing? No, this time I'm going to do my own thing. And then we have to go through a series of disciplines and sufferings until we learn his will, until we willingly come to receive his way, to embrace the cross. Paul says, I die daily, as though he was filling up in his body that which was lacking, as though Christ hadn't finished it all on the cross. But he had, Jesus had finished it all on the cross. But yet, in our life, there's a cross to endure. And so it's God working in us, both to will and to do, for his good pleasure, we have to finish our ways, and we have to endure the sufferings. You know, sometimes we go on the journey and you say, you know what? We used to have this cartoon. I've had all as I can stands and I can't stands no more. It's time for me to stand up for my rights. No, when he was reviled, he did not revile and return. As a lamb before the shearer was silent, he didn't open his mouth. He stood up and defended the cause of the widow and the poor. But on his own cause, he never stood up for himself. And we have that to learn. You can stand up for the one who can't stand up for himself, and you might end up taking the blame for it and wearing it. But you know what? We're not to stand up for ourselves. What about my rights? Yet, this is not easy, because the gospel in America is our God, our guns, and our constitution. But the message of the cross goes contrary to these things. Follow me as I follow Christ, Paul said. I died daily. What was he dying to? If he says, if I have to speak foolishly, he said, I will speak of my infirmities. And then he goes on to talk about how many times he was stoned. How many times they whipped him, they tried to whip Christ out of him. How many times they threw him out of different places, sought to kill him. How sometimes they beat him with rods. How he was in the deep and seemingly you would think God would not allow the storm to break up the ship. Yet, somehow he finds himself floating on a piece of wood in the sea and God saves him. And then in all that he's preaching the gospel, some viper comes out and tries to take him out and fastens on his hand, he just shakes him off. Everybody's waiting for him to die, but he doesn't die. In all these things, Paul says this, we are more than conquerors through Christ who gives us strength. It's not something you can do. It's not pulling up your bootstraps and making it happen. It's God working in you. So what is the scripture right before that? Brethren, we have a race to finish. Christ finished the race. On his part, it's finished. But on our part, there's salvation to be worked out. So we're to work out our salvation with fear and trembling because the Holy Spirit is in us, working in us both to will and to do his will. We are to surrender our will to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Are you willing? Are you willing to allow the rose to be crushed, to be the fragrance of Christ in every place? Are you willing to be the orange that gets squeezed so the beautiful juice can come out for someone to taste and see that the Lord is good? We have to have a right understanding of the gospel. We can miss the gospel when we miss the cross. The cross is foolishness to them who are perishing, but to us who are being saved, it is the power of God. It's not drawing the cross on the ground before you get to the plate. That's not the cross. It's not doing one of these when you come to the church. That's not the cross. It's not what hangs on your neck and you give it a kiss every now and again. That's not the cross. The cross is something that is on your back that you're carrying. When someone comes and tells you off, how you will respond. When someone comes and makes fun of you, what you do. When someone comes and puts you in your place and reminds you that you're a nothing burger and they're an authority. How do you react? And you know what? The journey is not easy. Sometimes we may fail. But if we sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous, and he's beckoning us to press on. Pressing on to perfection. You say, it sounds like a heresy. The Word of God says that we are to be holy as he is holy. The Word of God calls us to be perfect for he is perfect. So we don't have to look to men, they are not our guide, they are not our standard. Your pastor is not your standard. Jesus is the standard. I had many people come and they say, well, you know what, you're just too hard on me. You know, Jesus and this and that. No, Jesus' standard is a hundred million times higher than my standard. A hundred million times. Because he says he loved righteousness and he hated lawlessness. Yeah, you say, but he's a hundred times more merciful. He is a hundred times more merciful while we have breath. But after we cross from this life into the next, we're going to see him as King of Kings and Lord of Lords coming on the clouds of great glory with power. And he's coming to judge the nations. And every one of us is going to be judged. Not just judged for the things that we've done, but judged for every idle word we've spoken. So when we start to think about the things that we're going to say, I'm going to just tell this guy how I experience him. I'm just going to tell this person what I think about him. You better be careful because these things were written down someplace and God has a reminder of them. Because we've been called not to give people a piece of our mind. We spent enough of our past lifetime telling people off and dealing with people with these fists. Now we're going to deal with them as the way Christ deals with them, with kindness and compassion. The people who don't know better. For what have I to do with judging those who are outside the church? God judges them. But yet in the congregation such as this, God calls us to judge those who are inside the church. Why? So that those who are approved may be recognized. So we can know those people who are actually walking with Christ and those who have a false pretense of following Christ. Because it's not by the gifts that you know them. It's not by the way that people prophesy that you know them. It's not by the way they can speak in tongues that you know them. It's not by all these measures that we know them. Because many false prophets will come in his name and they'll do all kinds of signs and wonders in his name. Even it says in 2 Thessalonians in chapter 2 from 9 to 11 that the Antichrist comes with all kinds of false signs and lying wonders and deceives people. And they follow after him because they're mesmerized by the power and the signs and all these things they see. But not everything that glitters is gold my friend. So we have to have a right understanding that when God wants us to use this sermon to judge those who are inside the church and those who say they're his, we need to become fruit inspectors. When the brother gets squeezed like an orange, is it pure sweet juice that comes out? What comes out when you squeeze someone? That's how you're going to know where they're at spiritually. When you see, you touch their wallet and they get angry. You know, you hear somebody have a little laugh at them and you see how they react. You know, we have to be careful that when we see these attitudes of the heart, the selfishness coming out of our hearts, that we repent of these things. And then when we see it, we have to make those things right. We can't just stay in the same spot and call ourselves something. We're a goat, but we call ourselves sheep. The last thing we want to do is stand at the judgment seat and realize that we're going to the left and we're not going to the right. When I was hungry, you gave me no food. When I was thirsty, you gave me no drink. When I was in prison, you never visited me. You were busy doing your own thing. You shall never taste my supper. Lord, we did all these things in your name 20 years ago. But then we became disillusioned on the way and we decided to live for self. Get out of here! I don't want to hear that. Do you? Let's endure hardship as good soldiers of Jesus Christ. Embrace the cross. Kiss the son lest he be angry with you. We have to endure discipline. As the people of God, we are the ones that he disciplines because he loves us. When he disciplines us, it's for our benefit so that we would not be condemned with the world, but that we would become conformed into his likeness. You know, he had a son that he was created. He was above all the other chairs. He was the angel that covers. He was esteemed the highest in heaven, it seems. Third highest or whatever it was. He was the covering chair. He was made, created so beautiful. In fact, we could read about him. His name is Lucifer. Sometimes we think, you know, God loves us so much. It doesn't matter what we do. We're good. We have to take seriously the whole counsel of God. We can't just take some of the counsel of God. Ezekiel in chapter 28. It speaks of the king of Tyre, but I believe it's a dual prophecy speaking also of Lucifer. When we read in verse 12, I'll skip to the part that says, you were the seal of perfection. I believe speaking of Lucifer. Full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God. Ezekiel 28 verse 13. Every precious stone was your covering. He goes to name all the stones, the emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and your pipes. There's some rumors that Satan, Lucifer, was over the music. Because God is worshipped 24 hours, 24-7. And it speaks of the workmanship of your timbrels and your pipes. That Lucifer was in charge of seeing to it that the worship was continuing. It doesn't speak much about it, but in my spirit it bears witness. Because when we see all the music that's going on in the world today, it seems someone's behind it. There's godly worship and there's godly music, but Satan seems to be behind. Lucifer seems to be behind most of it. There's a spirit behind it. And you know what? There's only two types of spirits. There's either godly or ungodly. There's either spiritual or there's satanic. There's no middle ground. Even when you're thinking, I'll even go to the place of classical where there's no words. Yet you can just experience the soulishness in it, which appeals to emotions. Even people can weep and cry because their soul is overwhelmed. But soulishness is demonic. It's what it says in James. It's earthly, sensual and demonic. Sensuality is related to soulishness. We have to purify our souls in obeying the truth through the word of God. And so sometimes we can get caught up in it. Even I get caught up in it. You listen to a catchy tune and all of a sudden you realize it's producing something of rebellion in you. Something of pride in you. It's getting you going in the morning. Amped up for the work day. But is it from God? This is a question. When we think of this, we think of Lucifer. Lucifer being behind this thing. Drawing people to worship himself. Because he longed for worship. His heart turned away from worshiping God and loving God. And he was even so crafty that he drew a third of the angels with him. He must have been exceedingly powerful and had exceeding authority and beauty that they listened to him. The workmanship of the pipes and the timbrels was prepared for you on the day that you were created. But let's know this. The difference between Jesus Christ and Lucifer is that Jesus Christ was not created. He was in the beginning with God. But Lucifer was created. He was a created cherub that covers. It says in verse 14, you were the anointed cherub who covers. When we see the ark, a picture of the ark of the covenant. On either side there was a lid, the mercy seat. And there were two covering cherubs who covered the mercy seat where the blood was to be poured. The sacrifice to be poured. It's the highest level in the kingdom of heaven to be a covering cherub who is anointed. I established you, God said. You were on the holy mountain of God. You walked back and forth in the midst of the fiery stones. You were perfect in all your ways from the day you were created. There it is a second time. He was created. Till iniquity was found in you. Sin was found in his heart. By the abundance of your trading. Now we can say this is the king of Tyre. But at the same time, we can also say that you can't serve God in money. And so there was something that he was missing. He was missing. He wanted something for himself. He was like, you know, I've worked long enough for my boss. I've been working long enough making this guy rich. It's time for me to make myself rich. It's time for me to work some deals. Maybe I can start working some deals with the angels. I'll say, listen, this is what I'm going to do for you, you guys. If you guys will follow me, I will give you all these things. And these are the same tricks you use with Jesus. If you'll just bow down and worship me, I will give you all these kingdoms. If you will just bow down and worship me, I will do this for you. I will do that for you. I will make you a rock star and people will worship you if you will just worship me. This is how these things can happen. And so through abundance of his trading, you became filled with violence within. So what can happen is when we start to become selfish, self-centered, self-seeking, wanting glory and honor for ourselves, then we can become angry brothers and we can become violent and deal very shrewdly with people. And not only that, the testimony is that war broke out in heaven. He became exceedingly violent against God and against the other angels who did not join him. And so it lines up with the testimony that through his desire for worship, his desire for honor, his desire to be recognized because he was doing all this for God, that he became angry in his heart and war broke out in heaven and he sinned. That's what it says in 16. So iniquity was found in him initially, but now sin manifests when he puts that iniquity into practice. It was in his heart and he gave the key to it and he put it into practice. Therefore, I cast you as a profane thing out of the mountain of God. And Jesus said himself, I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. He was cast out of the mountain of God. Mount Zion, the heavenly mountain, the city of the living God, the new Jerusalem. He was cast out from heaven, out of the presence of God. And I destroyed you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the fiery storms. Verse 17, your heart was lifted up because of your beauty. Brother, sister, it doesn't matter what you attain to spiritually, how much work God does in your life to make you so beautiful. People come and say, man, you're just such a precious brother. You're just a beautiful sister in the Lord. Don't let it get to your head because Satan will work through that to try to get your heart lifted up. Next thing you know, you're questioning the authorities in your life. And you start to question your boss and you start to question the people who are telling you what to do. And you know better than them. Be very careful that you don't assert the authority that God gives you. That is where David found a good foundation, a good footing. You know, Saul was king in Israel, yet God had anointed him to be the next king. But yet he did not assert that authority and take Saul out when he had opportunity. He had been given at least two opportunities to remove Saul by his own hand. But he did not take it. When he cut his robe, his conscience bothered him. He realized this is not the Lord's way. I'm not going to touch the Lord's anointed. I'll not do his prophets no harm. Saul was one who prophesied with the prophets at one time. But now the evil spirits have come on him. But yet we're not justified to take him out just because he's from the devil. Just because the devil's working through him half the time. We have to allow the Lord to do what he's going to do. Let it play out. Don't play into the devil's tricks to come alongside people. Because you will not learn the things that God wants you to learn. The sufferings of Christ and the glories that will follow. This Lucifer, his heart was lifted up because he was exceedingly beautiful. The Lord made him beautiful. And the Lord will make you beautiful in his time. He will make everything beautiful. He'll make your nature beautiful. He'll make people want to be around you because you're beautiful. He'll make all things beautiful in his time. He said, you corrupted your wisdom. Solomon did that at the end of his life. He corrupted his wisdom. He knew all the right things. He wrote in Ecclesiastes 12, the end of the matter. Fear God, keep his commandments, for this is man's all. Yet at the end of his life, because he had disobeyed way over here. He went and took all these foreign women as wives. And they led his heart away as God had said. But he trusted in his own beauty. He trusted in his own wisdom. And it didn't manifest right away. But it did manifest at the end of his life. Just because right away you think, I've got this. I've got this. No, no, no. I'm not going to go back to the way I used to be. No, no. I've got this. God's with me. God's got me. And you know what? We get away from his plan. We get out of his will. We start doing our own will. Walking in our own ways. At the end of his life, he began to build images to other gods. And he worshipped the Lord. And he also worshipped four other gods. Ashtoreths, and the god of the Sidonians. And all these different, the Chimash. He worshipped all these other deities. At the end of his life. The man who was the most wise. And here we see Lucifer. He corrupted his wisdom. Because he went against what God's word was. And so, because he corrupted his wisdom. On account of his splendor. He said, I cast you to the ground. That serpent. When he went to Eden the next time. He found himself cast to the ground. I laid you before kings. That they might gaze at you. Now I'll quit in that section there. You know, we have a choice. To walk as Jesus walked. Or we can choose to listen to the voice of the devil. We can choose to listen to the devil's wisdom. We can choose to walk in rebellion and pride. And live your best life now on earth. And go out with a blaze. And be eternally damned with the devil. There's no more chance for him. But there's opportunity for us. Today if we've heard his voice. That we'll humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God. And the word of God. And we'll receive with meekness. With a humble heart. The word of God. And let it be richly implanted in your heart. Don't let it rattle around in your head. And go out the ears. Because some receive the word. And it just hits the head. And shoots out the ears. And immediately they forget. It doesn't go into the ground and die. Let the word of God go into your heart. And die. And become rooted in you. So that it can live. If the word of God doesn't become a part of you. It will never change your life. Allow the word of God to dwell richly. In your hearts through faith. It says in 1 Peter 1. Verse 22. Having purified your souls. We are a soulless bunch. The soul is made up of our minds. We have all these bright ideas. Our will. Which God has given us. And our emotions. We're emotional. We get angry. We get happy. We can get sad. Very depressed. Next thing you know. We're on top of the world. But we want to yield all these things. To the Lordship of Christ. Our mind. Our will. And our emotions. To allow him to have his way. Through the word of God. We can purify our souls. Because there is a war. Just like there was a war in heaven. Between Lucifer and God. And Satan lost. There is a war for your soul. Lucifer wants your soul. And God wants our soul. And you know what? I've heard it said before. If there are two dogs who fight. A white dog and a black dog. The one that you feed is the one that will win. If you get in your alone time. And you say. I just need to pump up the jam this morning. To get going for the day. And you feed that soulishness. In your spirit. You will really struggle spiritually. And there will be a constant war. But if you yield your will. And you say. No Lord. I don't need to cheer myself up with worldliness. And ungodliness. But I'm going to encourage myself in the Lord. And you know what? There are days when you are going to be downcast. There are days when you are going to say. I'm not happy with what I see in the mirror today. But you need to be one. Who can strengthen himself in the Lord. David was one. Who learned to strengthen himself in the Lord. When a time came. When his family was taken from him. His men turned against him to kill him. The city where he was. Was burned with fire. And God had given him all these precious promises. But he wasn't seeing any of it realized in his life. It says he inquired of the Lord. He grabbed the ephod. Which was only for priests to grab. And he said. I got to hear from God. And he encouraged himself in the Lord. When not one single person was there. To encourage him. To say you know what? I'm with you. I'm praying for you. God is going to help you. None of that. There was no one. There was nothing. But God. And God is enough. Jesus is enough. The power of the Holy Spirit in your life is enough. Sometimes I talk to myself. I say soul. Why are you downcast? You're putting your hope. You just lost a bunch of money. You're putting your hope in your money. I repent Lord. You're just discouraged because another brother fell. You're down. You say what's the point? It's useless. Everybody is going to fall eventually. No. Satan gets behind me. What matters is you press on with God. If I'm the only one. Don't none go with me. Lord I pray that I will follow. That I would be faithful. I get on my knees. I said Lord. Don't none go with me. I'm following. Everyone wants to go back. Lord your word says we are not of them that draw back to perdition. But them that press on to the saving of the soul. Why are you discouraged by what's going on around you? Put your hope in Jesus. Stop looking at what men are doing. Look what Jesus is doing. When we get our eyes on him. Then he is able to do exceedingly and abundantly more for us. Than we hope or imagine. And I just want to encourage you with that. Don't follow your heart. You know sometimes we watch these soul-ish shows. Right? The Hallmark movies. Sometimes we've got a Christmas time. And you know the famous saying is follow your heart. Well you follow your heart. You'll find yourself in a bad way. Because the heart is deceitful and desperately wicked. Who can know it? You know. Right? We need to follow the Lord. Not follow your heart. Your heart will lead you astray. In my flesh dwells no good thing. But if your heart is for the Lord. That's where life change can happen. We need the Lord to exceedingly and abundantly. Engulf. Not only our spirits. But our souls. How do our souls become purified? Through simple childlike faith. In obeying the truth. Well I don't understand. Never mind that. Just obey. Just simple obedience. Well I don't like. Never mind that. Eat your spinach. Why? It's good for you. I don't like it. Doesn't matter if we like it. We sometimes need to do things that we don't like. And eventually we learn to like it. Not too long ago a doctor said. You're taking too much salt. You need to cut on the salt. The blood pressure is getting too high. Lose some weight. I don't like it. Well you might not like it. But you might die young. You might not fulfill the purpose and call. Well I say I believe my days are numbered. But then again. You can't trick God. If we're not going to be obedient to certain things. We're going to bring a fate on ourselves. And so may the Lord help us. Say you know what I may not like it. But I need to be obedient to it. Because it's what's right. And that brings us back to what the word of God says. You may not like it. Your will might say I don't like it. But submit yourself. Submit your will. Pick up your cross. Humble yourself before the almighty God. And watch your soul become purified. And all of a sudden the movies that you used to like to watch. You won't like them anymore. The salty food. The processed food you used to eat. It can be too salty for you now. Your taste changes. Your character changes. Your heart changes. The whole part of you changes. And now when people come and squeeze you. And you used to get angry. Now all of a sudden you become sweet. You don't react. The way that you used to react. Because God is working in you. To will. And to do. Thank you for his good pleasure. May we yield ourselves completely to the word of God. It's a walk. We have to walk. Out our salvation. It's not in just. Claiming promises. And talking about stuff. We have to actually engage in the war. We have to fight against the devil. And his schemes. To become the righteousness of Christ. We have the righteous robes on. But yet he wants to work on our character. That we become like Christ. Spirit. Soul. And body. The whole man being redeemed. We want to be completely redeemed. He's able to save to the uttermost. Those who are being set apart. So that we might become. That beautiful fragrance. That when the world sees you. They are able to see Christ. In Jesus name.
