As followers of Christ, believers are called to live a life of purity and self-control. The apostle Paul warns in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, and therefore, we should not harm them with substance abuse. In 1 Corinthians 15:33, Paul also cautions against the corrupting influence of bad company, which can lead to destructive habits. The Bible teaches that we should instead be transformed by the renewal of our minds, as Romans 12:2 instructs, and live soberly, as Titus 2:12 encourages, in order to honor God with our lives.

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
It instructs us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.
The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear-minded and sober, so that you can pray.
Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.
This is the revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants what must soon come to pass. He made it known by sending His angel to His servant John,
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is a brawler, and whoever is led astray by them is not wise.
Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to reckless indiscretion. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide an escape, so that you can stand up under it.
The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; idolatry and sorcery; hatred, discord, jealousy, and rage; rivalries, divisions, factions, and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
