In the pursuit of a faithful life, believers are cautioned against the dangers of distraction, which can lead to spiritual complacency and disengagement. According to 1 Peter 5:8, Satan seeks to devour the unaware, emphasizing the need for vigilance and focused attention on one's walk with God. The stories of Martha and Mary in Luke 10:38-42 illustrate the tension between busyness and devotion, while James 1:22 encourages hearers to be doers of the word, rather than merely passive listeners. Additionally, Jesus teaches in Luke 12:34 that one's heart follows one's treasure, and Paul advises in 1 Corinthians 7:35 to avoid divided loyalties that can distract from a wholehearted commitment to the Lord.

Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Otherwise, you are deceiving yourselves.
As they traveled along, Jesus entered a village where a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to His message. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations to be made. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord replied, “you are worried and upset about many things. But only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, and it will not be taken away from her.”
I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but in order to promote proper decorum and undivided devotion to the Lord.
Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and every expression of evil, and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save your souls. Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Otherwise, you are deceiving yourselves. For anyone who hears the word but does not carry it out is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror, and after observing himself goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom, and continues to do so—not being a forgetful hearer, but an effective doer—he will be blessed in what he does.
