As believers humble themselves and recognize their dependence on Him, they are invited to draw near to God's presence. In James 4:8, the promise is given that if we draw nigh to God, He will draw nigh to us. To do so, we must first submit to God, as instructed in James 4:7, and be aware of our spiritual adversary, as warned in 1 Peter 5:8. By confessing and turning from sin, as encouraged in 1 John 1:9, and humbling ourselves, as commanded in James 4:10, we can experience a deeper intimacy with our heavenly Father. Through this process, God's presence and power become more real in our lives.

Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
