7 Bible Verses on Eating in Church

7 verses

When gathering for worship, believers are called to prioritize reverence and unity. In 1 Corinthians, the apostle Paul addresses the issue of eating in church, urging the community to examine their motives and actions, as some were eating and drinking in an unworthy manner. According to 1 Corinthians 11:22, such behavior is unacceptable, and Paul advises those who are hungry to eat at home, as the church gathering is for the Lord's Supper, not a common meal. As Jesus taught in John 6, true nourishment comes from partaking in His body and blood, and when eating or drinking, believers should do so to the glory of God, as stated in 1 Corinthians 10:31.

Don’t you have your own homes in which to eat and drink? Or do you despise the church of God and humiliate those who have nothing? What can I say to you? Shall I praise you for this? No, I will not!
If anyone is hungry, he should eat at home, so that when you come together it will not result in judgment. And when I come, I will give instructions about the remaining matters.
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.
Now then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat.
For My flesh is real food, and My blood is real drink. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him. Just as the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on Me will live because of Me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your fathers, who ate the manna and died, the one who eats this bread will live forever.” Jesus said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. For whoever serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men. So then, let us pursue what leads to peace and to mutual edification. Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to let his eating be a stumbling block. It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything to cause your brother to stumble.
Then God said, “Behold, I have given you every seed-bearing plant on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit contains seed. They will be yours for food.
