In the face of opposition, believers are called to respond with love and humility, rather than retaliation or hatred. Jesus teaches in Luke 6:27 to love and pray for those who mistreat us, reflecting God's own character of mercy and compassion. The apostle Paul instructs in Romans 12:17-21 to overcome evil with good, leaving vengeance to God, while James 4:7 urges resistance to the devil, who flees from those who submit to God. Ultimately, as Isaiah 54:17 and 1 Peter 5:8 remind us, our trust is in God's power to protect and redeem us from all harm.

But to those of you who will listen, I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Carefully consider what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible on your part, live at peace with everyone. Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says the Lord.” On the contrary, “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink. For in so doing, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
Evil will slay the wicked, and the haters of the righteous will be condemned. The LORD redeems His servants, and none who take refuge in Him will be condemned.
Be kind and tenderhearted to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.
You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor’ and ‘Hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even Gentiles do the same? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
