The Bible teaches that believers have a responsibility to hold one another accountable for their actions and words. In Matthew 18:15-17, Jesus outlines a process for addressing sin within the community of faith. The apostle James warns that teachers will be judged more strictly, emphasizing the importance of accountability among leaders, as noted in James 3:1. Additionally, Romans 14:12 and Luke 12:48 remind believers that they will each give an account to God, highlighting the need for personal responsibility and accountability within the body of Christ.

If your brother sins against you, go and confront him privately. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over. But if he will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’ If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, regard him as you would a pagan or a tax collector.
Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.
If a man makes a vow to the LORD or swears an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word; he must do everything he has promised.
But the one who unknowingly does things worthy of punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and from him who has been entrusted with much, even more will be demanded.
