11 Bible Verses on Liar

11 verses

Deception and dishonesty are strongly condemned in Scripture, with warnings against those who spread falsehoods. In Proverbs, the Bible teaches that a false witness will not go unpunished, and that a liar will be destroyed. Jesus Himself identified the devil as the father of lies, highlighting the spiritual roots of deception, as seen in John 8:44. The book of Revelation also lists liars among those who will be excluded from eternal life, emphasizing the importance of honesty and integrity, as reinforced in Proverbs 14:5 and Proverbs 26:23-28.

A false witness will not go unpunished, and one who pours out lies will perish.
John 8:44
You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out his desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, refusing to uphold the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies.
But to the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and sexually immoral and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their place will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur. This is the second death.”
An honest witness does not deceive, but a dishonest witness pours forth lies.
Like glaze covering an earthen vessel are burning lips and a wicked heart. A hateful man disguises himself with his speech, but he lays up deceit in his heart. When he speaks graciously, do not believe him, for seven abominations fill his heart. Though his hatred is concealed by deception, his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly. He who digs a pit will fall into it, and he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him. A lying tongue hates those it crushes, and a flattering mouth causes ruin.
The righteous hate falsehood, but the wicked bring shame and disgrace.
Lying lips are detestable to the LORD, but those who deal faithfully are His delight.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
“You shall not spread a false report. Do not join the wicked by being a malicious witness.
Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is Mine; I will repay, says the Lord.”
But outside are the dogs, the sorcerers, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood.
