5 Bible Verses on Lowly

5 verses

In God's eyes, a humble and lowly heart is highly valued. The book of Proverbs teaches that pride and arrogance lead to a fall, while a gentle spirit is a hallmark of wisdom, as seen in Proverbs 16:5 and 16:18-19. Jesus invites the weary and burdened to come to Him, promising rest for their souls, as recorded in Matthew 11:28-30. The prophet Isaiah describes the Messiah as one who is despised and rejected, yet exalted by God, as seen in Isaiah 53:2-3, highlighting the paradox of God's strength in weakness. The story of Job also illustrates the importance of humility in the face of suffering.

Everyone who is proud in heart is detestable to the LORD; be assured that he will not go unpunished.
Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no stately form or majesty to attract us, no beauty that we should desire Him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief. Like one from whom men hide their faces, He was despised, and we esteemed Him not.
Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. It is better to be lowly in spirit among the humble than to divide the spoil with the proud.
However, if I were you, I would appeal to God and lay my cause before Him— the One who does great and unsearchable things, wonders without number. He gives rain to the earth and sends water upon the fields. He sets the lowly on high, so that mourners are lifted to safety. He thwarts the schemes of the crafty, so that their hands find no success. He catches the wise in their craftiness, and sweeps away the plans of the cunning. They encounter darkness by day and grope at noon as in the night. He saves the needy from the sword in their mouth and from the clutches of the powerful. So the poor have hope, and injustice shuts its mouth.
