9 Bible Verses on Self-image

9 verses

According to Scripture, our identity and worth are rooted in being created in God's image, as seen in Genesis 1:26-27. This truth is reinforced in Psalms 139:14, where the psalmist expresses wonder and gratitude for being fearfully and wonderfully made. However, our self-perception can be misguided, as 1 Samuel 16:7 reminds us that God looks beyond outward appearances to the heart. Through faith in Christ, we become new creations, as stated in 2 Corinthians 5:17, and are called to humility and sober self-assessment, as encouraged in Romans 12:3.

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair or gold jewelry or fine clothes, but from the inner disposition of your heart, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in God’s sight.
This is what the LORD says: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, nor the strong man in his strength, nor the wealthy man in his riches. But let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD, who exercises loving devotion, justice and righteousness on the earth— for I delight in these things,” declares the LORD.
Behold what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.
