14 Bible Verses on Spiritual Authority

14 verses

In the biblical account, Jesus grants His disciples authority to carry out His mission, as seen in Luke 9:1 and Luke 10:19, where they are given power over unclean spirits and the ability to tread on serpents. This authority is rooted in Jesus' own declaration in Matthew 28:18, where He claims all authority in heaven and on earth. The apostle Paul also writes about submitting to governing authorities in Romans 13:1, emphasizing the importance of respecting established authority. Meanwhile, Hebrews 13:17 encourages believers to obey their spiritual leaders, highlighting the role of spiritual authority in guiding the community of faith.

Behold, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will harm you.
Luke 9:1
Then Jesus called the Twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and power to cure diseases.
Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which is from God. The authorities that exist have been appointed by God.
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they watch over your souls as those who must give an account. To this end, allow them to lead with joy and not with grief, for that would be of no advantage to you.
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again, I tell you truly that if two of you on the earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven. For where two or three gather together in My name, there am I with them.”
You, little children, are from God and have overcome them, because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
“But what about you?” Jesus asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah! For this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by My Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
For though we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh. The weapons of our warfare are not the weapons of the world. Instead, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We tear down arguments and every presumption set up against the knowledge of God; and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will be made well.”
My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.
The one who practices sin is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the very start. This is why the Son of God was revealed, to destroy the works of the devil.
because everyone born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith. Who then overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.
