5 Bible Verses on Treating Others

5 verses

The Bible teaches that our actions towards others reflect our relationship with God. In Matthew, Jesus commands us to "do to others what you would have them do to you" (Matthew 7:12) and to love our neighbors, even those who may be considered enemies (Matthew 5:43-48). This selfless love is also encouraged in Philippians, where we are called to consider others better than ourselves (Philippians 2:3-4). The book of James warns against showing favoritism, instead urging us to treat all people with equality and respect (James 2:2-3). Ultimately, Jesus teaches that loving our neighbors is the second greatest commandment, after loving God (Matthew 22:39).

You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor’ and ‘Hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even Gentiles do the same? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or empty pride, but in humility consider others more important than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in shabby clothes also comes in. If you lavish attention on the man in fine clothes and say, “Here is a seat of honor,” but say to the poor man, “You must stand” or “Sit at my feet,”
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
