20 Bible Verses on Warning Before Destruction

20 verses

Before calamity strikes, God often provides warnings to prompt repentance and salvation. In Ezekiel, the prophet is commissioned to serve as a watchman, warning the wicked of impending judgment and calling them to turn from their evil ways. The wisdom literature, such as Proverbs, also cautions against pride and complacency, which can lead to a great fall. Jesus' teachings in Matthew and Luke emphasize the importance of being prepared and vigilant, lest one be caught off guard by the Lord's return, and Matthew further reminds us that it is not the body that can kill, but the soul that is at greater risk.

“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from My mouth, give them a warning from Me. If I say to the wicked man, ‘You will surely die,’ but you do not warn him or speak out to warn him from his wicked way to save his life, that wicked man will die in his iniquity, and I will hold you responsible for his blood. But if you warn a wicked man and he does not turn from his wickedness and his wicked way, he will die in his iniquity, but you will have saved yourself.
