The Bible teaches that when a person dies, their physical body returns to the earth, but their spirit returns to God who gave it. Brothers, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who are without hope. Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.
When his spirit departs, he returns to the ground; on that very day his plans perish.
And if anyone was found whose name was not written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
