2 Chronicles 27
BSA1 Jotham [a son of twenty-five years, twenty and five years old] was twenty-five years old when he became [began to reign, started ruling as] king, and he reigned [ruled, was in power] in Jerusalem [the city of peace, the capital city] sixteen [six and ten] years. His mother’s [female parent, maternal figure] name was Jerushah [the wife of King Uzziah] daughter of Zadok [the high priest, righteous one]. word study 2 And he did what was right [just, upright] in the eyes [sight, perception] of the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God], just as his father [parent, ancestor] Uzziah had done. In addition, he did not enter [go into, approach] the temple [house, sanctuary] of the LORD. But the people [nation, community] still [yet, continually] behaved corruptly [in a ruinous, destructive manner]. word study 3 Jotham rebuilt [restored, repaired] the Upper [high, higher] Gate [entrance, doorway] of the house [temple, dwelling place] of the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God], and he worked [built, established] extensively [abundantly, much] on the wall [barrier, fortification] at the hill [ridge, stronghold] of Ophel [a fortified location]. word study 4 He also built [established, constructed] cities [towns, settlements] in the hill country [mountains, highlands] of Judah [the tribe, the region] and fortresses [strong buildings, castles] and towers [elevated stages, watchtowers] in the forests [wooded areas, trees]. word study 5 Jotham waged war [fought, battled] against the king [ruler, monarch] of the Ammonites [sons of Ammon, descendants of Lot] and defeated [prevailed, overcame] them, and that year [at that time, in the same year] they gave him a hundred [one hundred, a multitude of] talents [units of weight, measures of silver] of silver [precious metal, wealth], ten thousand [a myriad, a large quantity] cors [measures, containers] of wheat [grain, food], and ten thousand [a multitude, an abundance] cors of barley [grain, provision]. They paid him the same [an equal amount, a similar tribute] in the second and third [following, successive] years. word study 6 So Jotham [became mighty, grew strong] grew powerful because he ordered [directed, established] his ways [path, manner of life] before [in the presence of] the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God] his God [Elohim, the one true deity]. word study 7 As for the rest [remainder, what is left] of the acts [chronicles, events] of Jotham [Jehovah is perfect], along with all [everything, the entirety] his wars [battles, conflicts] and his ways [path, manner of life], they are indeed written [recorded, inscribed] in the Book [scroll, written document] of the Kings [rulers, monarchs] of Israel [the chosen people] and Judah [the tribe of praise]. word study 8 He was twenty-five [a son of twenty and five] years old when he became [began to reign, to rule as king] king, and he reigned [exercised royal authority, ruled] in Jerusalem [the city of peace, the capital of Judah] sixteen [six and ten] years. word study 9 And Jotham [slept with his fathers] rested with his fathers [his ancestors, those who came before him] and was buried [laid to rest, interred] in the City [town, settlement] of David [the city of the king, Jerusalem]. And his son [descendant, offspring] Ahaz [having God’s nature, Jehovah holds] reigned [ruled, governed] in his place [stead, position]. word study
