BSA

1 Now concerning [touching, about] the coming [presence, arrival] of our Lord [Master, Savior] Jesus [Joshua, God is salvation] Christ [the Anointed One, Messiah] and our being gathered [assembling] together [assembled, collected] to Him [toward Him, unto Him], we ask [beseech, request] you, brothers [brethren, fellow believers], word study 2 not to be easily [quickly or soon] disconcerted [shaken in mind, troubled] or alarmed [scared, frightened] by any spirit [breath, vital principle] or message [word, idea] or letter [epistle, written message] seeming to be from us, alleging [claiming, suggesting] that the Day [period of time, 24-hour period] of the Lord [Christ, the Messiah] has already come [is at hand, is present]. word study 3 Let no one deceive [deceive or mislead] you in any way [or manner], for it will not come [or arrive] until the rebellion [or apostasy, a falling away] occurs and the man of lawlessness [or sin, the son of perdition]—the son [or child] of destruction [or perdition, eternal loss]—is revealed [or disclosed, made known]. word study 4 He will oppose [as an adversary, be an enemy] and exalt [lift himself up, be haughty] himself above every so-called [named, worshipped as] god or object of worship [thing revered, idol]. So he will seat [sit, take his place] himself in the temple [sanctuary, holy place] of God [the one true deity], proclaiming [declaring, showing] himself to be [as, like] God [the supreme Creator]. word study 5 Do you not [completely] remember [to recall, bring to mind] that I told [shared, spoke] you these things [events, teachings] while I was still [yet, ongoing] with you [in your presence, among you]? word study 6 And you know [are aware of, perceive] what is now [at this present time] restraining [holding back, keeping in check] him, so that he may be revealed [uncovered, disclosed] at the proper [right, appointed] time [season, opportunity]. word study 7 For the mystery [secret, hidden truth] of lawlessness [wickedness, disobedience to God’s laws] is already [even now, currently] at work, but the one [the restrainer] who now [at this moment, currently] restrains [holds back, prevents] it will continue [remain, persist] until he is taken [removed, withdrawn] out of the way [from his position, no longer hindering]. word study 8 And then [at that specific point in time] the lawless one [who rejects God’s laws completely] will be revealed [made known, uncovered], whom the Lord Jesus [the supreme authority, Master] will slay [kill, destroy] with the breath [spirit, vital principle] of His mouth [words, command] and annihilate [bring to nothing, consume] by the majesty [brilliance, splendor] of His arrival [coming, presence]. word study 9 The coming [arrival, presence] of the lawless one [the wicked, rebellious person] will be accompanied [attended, marked] by the working [active energy, operation] of Satan [the adversary, accuser], with every kind [all types, various forms] of power [miraculous ability, strength], sign [supernatural indication, token], and false [lying, deceptive] wonder [amazing event, marvel], word study 10 and with every [all kinds of, various] wicked deception [deceit, unrighteousness] directed against those who are perishing [on their way to destruction, being lost], because they refused [did not receive, rejected] the love [unconditional affection, agape] of the truth [reality, divine truth] that would have saved [delivered, rescued] them. word study 11 For this reason [because of their rejection] God [the supreme deity] will send [dispatch, commission] them a powerful [strong, convincing] delusion [error, deceit] so that they believe [trust, have faith in] the lie [falsehood, untruth], word study 12 in order that [to bring about, resulting in] judgment [condemnation, punishment] may come upon all [every single one, everyone without exception] who have disbelieved [did not trust, refused to believe] the truth [reality, gospel message] and delighted [took pleasure, were pleased] in wickedness [unrighteousness, evil deeds]. word study 13 But we should always [at all times, continually] thank God [the supreme Deity, our Heavenly Father] for you, brothers [fellow believers, dear friends] who are loved [deeply cherished, highly valued] by the Lord [our Master, Jesus Christ], because God [the Almighty, our Savior] has chosen [selected, elected] you from the beginning [before the foundation of the world, from eternity] to be saved [rescued, delivered] by the sanctification [holiness, set apart] of the Spirit [the Holy Spirit, our Helper] and by faith [trust, confidence] in the truth [the Gospel, God’s Word]. word study 14 To this [toward which purpose, into this reality] He called [invited, summoned] you through our gospel [good news, message of salvation], so that you may share [participate, have a part] in the glory [honor, praise, divine splendor] of our Lord [Master, Sovereign] Jesus [God is salvation] Christ [the Anointed One, Messiah]. word study 15 Therefore [as a consequence, in light of this], brothers [fellow believers, siblings in Christ], stand firm [be strong, unshakeable] and cling to [hold fast, grasp] the traditions [teachings, instructions] we taught [instructed, guided] you, whether [if, in the case that] by speech [word, oral instruction] or by letter [epistle, written message]. word study 16 Now may our Lord [the supreme authority] Jesus Christ Himself and God [the Father, our Creator] our Father, who by [unmerited favor, divine kindness] grace has loved [shown esteem and goodwill towards] us and given us eternal [lasting forever, age-during] comfort [encouragement, solace] and good [beneficial, trustworthy] hope [expectation, confidence], word study 17 encourage [comfort, give solace to] your hearts [the seat of thoughts, feelings, and emotions] and strengthen [establish, make firm] you in every [all, each] good [beneficial, virtuous] word [message, idea] and deed [work, action]. word study
