Ecclesiastes 11

BSA

1 Cast [send forth, throw out] your bread [food, grain, provision] upon [on the surface of, over] the waters [liquid, source of refreshment], for [because, since] after many [a multitude of, numerous] days [a period of time, an age] you will find [discover, attain] it again [once more, in the future]. word study 2 Divide your portion [portion or share] among seven [or several], or even eight [to be prepared], for you do not know [are unaware of] what disaster [evil or calamity] may befall [happen to or come upon] the land [earth or territory]. word study 3 If the clouds [full of rain, overflowing] are full, they will pour out [empty themselves, shed abundantly] rain upon the earth [the land, the physical world]; whether a tree [a tree; wood, timber, a plank] falls to the south [the direction south, the southern region] or to the north [toward the Zaphon, the northern direction], in the place [a location, a specific spot] where it falls, there [in that exact spot, at that moment] it will lie [remain, come to rest]. word study 4 He who watches [observes carefully, keeps a close eye on] the wind [a blast of air] will fail to sow [plant seeds, scatter spiritual truths], and he who observes [regards, looks after] the clouds [dark clouds, signs of God’s presence] will fail to reap [harvest, gather spiritual fruit]. word study 5 As you do not know [are unaware of, cannot understand] the path [way, journey] of the wind [a blast of air], or how [in what manner] the bones [body, substance] are formed [grow, take shape] in a mother’s [a woman’s] womb [belly, depths], so you cannot understand [know, comprehend] the work [deed, action] of God [Elohim, the supreme Creator], the Maker [One who makes, creates] of all things [everything, the whole]. word study 6 Sow [plant, scatter] your seed [offspring, descendants] in the morning [at dawn, the break of day], and do not rest [cease, be still] your hands [strength, power] in the evening [at sunset, the end of the day], for you do not know [are unaware, cannot discern] which will succeed [prosper, be pleasing], whether this [one option] or that [another option], or if both [two, a pair] will equally [to the same extent, in like manner] prosper [be good, bring welfare]. word study 7 Light [truly sweet, a pleasant thing] is sweet [pleasant, agreeable], and it pleases [is good for, delights] the eyes [the sources of sight and understanding] to see [behold, look after] the sun [the sun; the east or the west]. word study 8 So if a man [the human being, Adam] lives many years, let him rejoice [be glad, celebrate] in them all. But let him remember [recall, not forget] the days of darkness [misery, spiritual gloom], for they will be many [numerous, abundant]. Everything to come [all that is future, what is to come] is futile. word study 9 Rejoice [be glad, cheer], O young man [in your youth, during your prime], while you are young [in your childhood, adolescence], and let your heart [your feelings, will, intellect] be glad [cheer, rejoice] in the days [periods of time] of your youth [childhood, young adulthood]. Walk [go, proceed] in the ways [paths, manner of life] of your heart [your desires, emotions] and in the sight [appearance, vision] of your eyes [your perception, understanding], but know [be aware, understand] that for all [everything, every aspect] these things God [Elohim, the supreme Judge] will bring [lead, guide] you to judgment [justice, accountability]. word study 10 So banish [remove, put away] sorrow [vexation, frustration] from your heart [the seat of feelings, will, and intellect], and cast off [turn aside, depart from] pain [evil, distress] from your body [flesh, physical form], for youth [childhood, adolescence] and vigor [dark hair, vitality] are fleeting [vanity, emptiness, transitory]. word study
