BSA1 Now King [Ahasuerus, also known as Xerxes] Xerxes imposed [laid, put, or set] tribute [tax, task, or levy] throughout the land [country, territory, or region], even to its farthest [distant, remote, or coastal] shores [coastlands, islands, or borders of the sea]. word study 2 And all [every single one] of Mordecai’s [the brave Israelite] powerful [mighty, strong] and magnificent [great, noble] accomplishments [deeds, acts], together with the full [complete, detailed] account [declaration, statement] of the greatness [importance, dignity] to which the king [the ruler, monarch] had raised [exalted, lifted up] him, are they not [is it not the case] written [recorded, inscribed] in the Book [scroll, document] of the Chronicles [history, records] of the Kings [rulers, monarchs] of Media [the Medes’ land] and Persia [the ancient country]? word study 3 For Mordecai the Jew [of Judah, a descendant of Israel] was second [in rank and authority] only to King Xerxes [Ahasuerus, the ruler of Persia], preeminent [great and respected] among the Jews [the people of Judah] and highly favored [accepted and loved] by his many kinsmen [brothers and relatives], seeking [to find and pursue] the good [welfare and prosperity] of his people [nation and community] and speaking [communicating and proclaiming] peace [shalom, completeness and wellness] to all [every single one] his countrymen [fellow Jews and citizens]. word study
