Ezekiel 25

1 Then the word [message from God, divine communication] of the LORD [Yehovah, the self-existent God] came [was revealed, appeared] to me, saying [to speak, to command, to declare], word study 2 “Son [descendant, a son of God] of man [the human, Adam], set [appoint, place] your face [presence, being in front of] against [toward, in the direction of] the Ammonites [children of Ammon, a nation] and prophesy [speak under divine influence, foretell] against [upon, regarding] them. word study 3 Tell the Ammonites [children of Ammon, descendants of Lot] to hear [listen and obey] the word [message, declaration] of the Lord [Adonay, God of reverence] GOD [Yehovah], for this is what the Lord [Adonay, Master] GOD [Yehovah, the covenant God] says: ‘Because you exclaimed [said with triumph, uttered a cry of joy], “Aha [an expression of surprise and excitement]!” when My sanctuary [holy place, temple] was profaned [desecrated, polluted], when the land [ground, earth] of Israel [God’s chosen people] was laid waste [desolate, devastated], and when the house [family, tribe] of Judah [praise, worship] went into exile [captivity, banishment], word study 4 therefore [thus, in this manner] I will indeed give you as a possession [inheritance, heritage] to the people [sons, descendants] of the East [front, direction]. They will set up their camps [encampments, palaces] and pitch their tents [tabernacles, dwellings] among you. They will eat your fruit [produce, abundance] and drink your milk. word study 5 I will make Rabbah [a dwelling place, a habitation] a pasture [a stable, for housing camels] for camels [used for riding or carrying loads], and Ammon [the Ammonites, a nation] a resting place [a couchingplace, a spot for flocks to lie down] for sheep [a flock, a group of people]. Then you will know [be certain, ascertain by seeing] that I am [exist as, have the power to act as] the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God].’ word study 6 For this is what the Lord [Adonay, the sovereign Master] GOD [Yehovah] says: ‘Because you clapped your hands [in triumph, with joyful applause] and stomped your feet [in contempt, with scornful trampling] and rejoiced [with gladness, with delight] over the land [the earthly territory, the promised inheritance] of Israel [the chosen people, the descendants of Jacob] with a heart [the inner being, the soul] full of contempt [scorn, disdain, hatred], word study 7 therefore [thus, in this manner] I will indeed stretch out [extend, reach forth] My hand [power, strength] against you and give [deliver, surrender] you as plunder [spoil, booty] to the nations [Gentiles, non-Hebrew peoples]. I will cut [sever, destroy] you off from the peoples [nations, countries] and exterminate [annihilate, wipe out] you from the countries [lands, territories]. I will destroy [lay waste, devastate] you, and you will know [recognize, understand] that I am the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God].’ word study 8 This is what the Lord [Adonay, a title of reverence] GOD [Yehovah] says: ‘Because [for the reason that] Moab [a land and people descended from Lot] and Seir [a mountain and its inhabitants, meaning hairy or shaggy] said, “Look [behold, take notice], the house [family, tribe, or dwelling place] of Judah [a tribe descended from Judah, the son of Jacob] is like [similar to, comparable with] all [every, the whole of] the other nations [Gentiles, non-Hebrew peoples],” word study 9 therefore [so, thus, in agreement] I will indeed expose [open, uncover, lay bare] the flank [shoulder, side, border] of Moab [the land and descendants of Lot] beginning with its frontier cities [towns, settlements, from the cities]—Beth-jeshimoth [house of desolation], Baal-meon [a town in Reuben], and Kiriathaim [two cities, a town in Naphtali]—the glory [beauty, splendor, renown] of the land [country, territory, earth]. word study 10 I will give it along with the Ammonites [sons of Lot, a neighboring nation] as a possession [inheritance, gift of land] to the people of the East [children of the east, sons of the dawn], so that the Ammonites [descendants of Ammon] will no longer be remembered [known, recalled] among the nations [Gentiles, non-Hebrew peoples]. word study 11 So I [as the righteous Judge] will execute [carry out, bring to pass] judgments [sentences, acts of justice] on Moab [the land and descendants of Lot], and they will know [learn, perceive, understand] that I [the Lord] am the LORD [the one true God, Yehovah].’ word study 12 This is what [thus, in this manner] the Lord [Adonay, a title of reverence] GOD [Yehovah] says: ‘Because [for the reason that] Edom [the nation descended from Esau] acted vengefully [with vicious revenge, taking payment] against the house [family, tribe] of Judah [the tribe descended from Judah], and in so doing [by their actions] incurred [committed, became guilty of] grievous [great, serious] guilt [offense, wrongdoing], word study 13 therefore [in this manner, thus] this is what the Lord [Adonay, the sovereign Master] GOD [Yehovah] says: I will stretch out [extend, reach forth] My hand [power, authority] against Edom [the region of Esau’s descendants] and cut off [destroy, eliminate] from it both man [human beings, Adam] and beast [animals, livestock]. I will make it [render, cause to be] a wasteland [desolate, barren], and from Teman [the southern region] to Dedan [the northern region] they will fall [be slain, defeated] by the sword [the instrument of war, violence]. word study 14 I will take [exact payment, full recompense] My vengeance [punishment, retribution] on Edom [the nation descended from Esau] by the hand [power, authority] of My people [chosen nation] Israel, and they will deal [act, treat] with Edom according to [in proportion to, as a result of] My anger [wrath, indignation] and wrath [fury, intense displeasure]. Then they will know [understand, experience] My vengeance [punishment, retribution], declares [says, utters] the Lord [Adonai, sovereign Master] GOD [Yehovah].’ word study 15 This is what the Lord [Adonay, the sovereign Master] GOD [Yehovah] says: ‘Because the Philistines [a people-group from Philistia, with a history of conflict] acted in [took revenge with] vengeance [punishment, retribution], taking vengeance [revenge, punishment] with malice [hatred, spite] of soul [the inner being, the heart] to destroy [bring to ruin, annihilate] Judah [the southern kingdom of Israel, God’s chosen people] with ancient [long-standing, perpetual] hostility [enmity, hatred], word study 16 therefore [in this manner, thus] this is what the Lord [Adonay, the sovereign Master] GOD [Yehovah] says: Behold [look, see], I will stretch out [extend, reach forth] My hand [power, authority] against the Philistines [immigrants from other places], and I will cut off [destroy, eliminate] the Cherethites [foreign soldiers, executioners] and destroy [bring to an end, annihilate] the remnant [what is left, the surviving ones] along the coast [the seashore, the border of the sea]. word study 17 I will execute [take with severe punishment] great vengeance [avengement, punishment for wrongdoing] against them with furious [intense, wrathful] reproof [rebuke, correction]. Then they will know [understand, recognize] that I am the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God], when I lay [give, impose] My vengeance [punishment, retribution] upon them [on their behalf, in their midst].’” word study
