Hebrews 1

1 On many past occasions [at sundry times, in times past] and in many different ways [in divers manners, variously], God [the one true deity, Creator] spoke [having spoken, communicated] to our fathers [ancestors, forefathers] through [by, in] the prophets [God’s messengers, spokesmen]. word study 2 But in these last days [at the end of these days, in this final age] He has spoken to us by His Son [the man who was also God, having God’s nature], whom He appointed [made, designated] heir [one who receives a share] of all things [everything, the universe], and through [because of, by means of] whom He made [created, brought into existence] the universe [the worlds, all that exists]. word study 3 The Son [the radiant glory of God, the visible expression] is the radiance [brightness, shining forth] of God’s [the supreme Creator, Elohim] glory [honor, praise, majestic splendor] and the exact [precise, perfect] representation [image, likeness] of His [God’s, the Father’s] nature [essence, substance, being], upholding [sustaining, supporting] all things [the universe, everything] by His [God’s, the Son’s] powerful [mighty, authoritative] word [declaration, utterance]. After He had provided [made, accomplished] purification [cleansing, forgiveness] for sins [transgressions, rebellions], He sat down [took His seat, was seated] at the right hand [the place of honor, authority] of the Majesty [greatness, glory] on high [in the highest heavens, exalted]. word study 4 So He became [far superior, much better] as far superior to the angels as [just as, to the same extent] the name [His character, authority] He has [by inheritance, as a gift] inherited [received, obtained] is excellent [surpassing] beyond [exceeding, superior to] theirs [that of the angels, heavenly messengers]. word study 5 For to which [specific, particular] of the angels [messengers, heavenly beings] did God [the Father, Creator] ever say: “You are My Son [begotten, unique]; today [at this present time, now] I have become Your Father [generator, originator]” ? Or again [once more, another time]: “I will be His Father [nourisher, protector], and He will be My Son [child, heir]” ? word study 6 And again [once more, at another time], when God [the supreme Deity, Creator] brings His firstborn [preeminent, uniquely born] into the world [the inhabited earth, the realm of humanity], He says: “Let all [every single one, the entirety of] God’s angels [heavenly messengers, divine servants] worship [bow down, pay homage to] Him [the Son, the divine Object of worship].” word study 7 Now about the angels [messengers of God] He says: “He makes His angels [spirits, heavenly beings] winds [like the wind, changeable], His servants [ministers, those who serve] flames [a blaze, fiery spirits] of fire [purifying, refining].” word study 8 But about the Son [the Messiah, God’s Anointed] He says: “Your throne [seat of power, royal authority], O God [the Supreme Deity, Creator], endures [remains, persists] forever [for all eternity, throughout the ages] and ever [perpetually, without end], and justice [righteousness, moral uprightness] is the scepter [rod, staff] of Your kingdom [reign, dominion]. word study 9 You have loved [with deep affection, cherished] righteousness [living according to God’s will, justice] and hated [detested, rejected] wickedness [lawlessness, evil]; therefore God [the Supreme Deity, your Father], Your God [the one true God, your Lord], has anointed [consecrated, appointed] You above Your companions [fellow heirs, partners] with the oil of joy [gladness, exultation].” word study 10 And: “In the beginning [at the very start, from the first], O Lord [God, the supreme ruler], You laid [founded, established] the foundations [base, starting point] of the earth [the land, the material world], and the heavens [the sky, the spiritual realm] are the work [creation, product] of Your hands [power, instrument]. word study 11 They will perish [come to an end, disappear], but You remain [continue, stay forever]; they will all wear out [grow old, become worn] like a garment [clothing, outer robe]. word study 12 You will roll them up [as a mantle] like a robe; like a garment [a vesture, a covering] they will be changed [altered, transformed]; but You remain [stay, abide] the same [unchanging, eternal], and Your years [periods of time, seasons] will never end [fail, cease].” word study 13 Yet to which [specific, particular] of the angels [messengers, heavenly beings] did God [the Supreme Being, Creator] ever say: “Sit [take your seat, be seated] at My right hand [place of honor, power] until [till the time when] I make Your enemies [those who oppose, hate] a footstool [a rest for your feet, a symbol of submission] for Your feet [a symbol of dominion, authority]” ? word study 14 Are not [certainly not, by no means] the angels [helping beings] ministering [serving, assisting] spirits [the vital principle] sent [apostled, dispatched] to serve [minister, attend to] those who will inherit [receive as a gift, obtain] salvation [rescue or safety, spiritual deliverance]? word study
