Hebrews 13

1 Continue [remain, stay] in [the practice of, demonstrating] brotherly love [affection for fellow believers, love of the brethren] [toward one another, as brothers and sisters in the faith]. word study 2 Do not [forget, be neglectful] neglect to show [love, kindness] hospitality [showing love and kindness to strangers] to strangers [travelers, those in need], for by so doing [through this, because of this] some people have entertained [hosted, welcomed] angels [messengers of God, heavenly beings] without [unaware, unknowingly] knowing it. word study 3 Remember [keep in mind, be mindful of] those in prison [in bonds, chained] as if you were bound [tied, imprisoned] with them, and those who are mistreated [ill-treated, tormented] as if you were suffering [maltreated, afflicted] with them. word study 4 Marriage [a sacred covenant, honourable in all] should be honored [held in high esteem, respected] by all and the marriage bed [the place of intimacy, undefiled] kept undefiled [pure, free from immorality], for God [the supreme Judge, righteous] will judge [condemn, punish] the sexually immoral [fornicators, those who engage in sexual sin] and adulterers [those who cheat on their spouse, unfaithful]. word study 5 Keep your lives free [free from covetousness, without greed] from the love of money [not being driven by a desire for wealth] and be content [satisfied, having enough] with what you have [the things present, your current circumstances], for God [the supreme Provider, Jehovah] has said: “Never [in no way, no] will I leave [abandon, loosen] you, never [nor, not] will I forsake [leave behind, desert] you.” word study 6 So we say with [good, bold] confidence: “The Lord [God, my Master] is my [faithful, divine] helper; I will not be [excessively, irrationally] afraid. What can [any, mere] man do to me [to harm, to deprive of God’s blessings]?” word study 7 Remember [be mindful of, think about] your leaders [those who have the rule over you, spiritual guides] who spoke [uttered, proclaimed] the word [Logos, the divine message] of God [the one true deity] to you. Consider the outcome [result, end] of their way of life [behaviour, manner of living] and imitate [follow, mimic] their faith [trust, confidence in God]. word study 8 Jesus [Joshua, God is salvation] Christ [the anointed Messiah] is the same [unchanging, eternal] yesterday [the previous day] and today [this current day] and forever [for all eternity, into the ages]. word study 9 Do not be carried away [led astray, diverted] by all kinds of [various, diverse] strange [foreign, unfamiliar] teachings [doctrines, instructions], for it is good [beneficial, advantageous] for the heart [the seat of thoughts, feelings, and emotions] to be strengthened [established, confirmed] by grace [unmerited favor, divine influence] and not by foods [meats, physical nourishment] of no value [no profit, unbeneficial] to those devoted [occupied, walking] to them. word study 10 We have [possess and hold] an altar [for sacrifice and worship] from which [out of, originating from] those who serve [minister and give homage] at the tabernacle [the tent, a sacred dwelling place] have no right [no authority or permission] to eat [partake or participate]. word study 11 Although the high priest [chief spiritual leader] brings the blood of animals [living creatures, beasts] into the Holy Place [sanctuary, set apart area] as a sacrifice [offering, atonement] for sin [missing the mark, rebellion against God], the bodies [physical forms, corpses] are burned [consumed by fire, completely destroyed] outside [beyond the boundaries, externally] the camp [barracks, military enclosure]. word study 12 And so Jesus [the Son of God, the Savior] also suffered [experienced pain, endured hardship] outside [beyond, outside of] the city gate [the entrance, the boundary], to sanctify [make holy, set apart] the people [a group of individuals, a nation] by [through, because of] His own [personal, private] blood. word study 13 Therefore [then, as a consequence] let us go [exit, come out] to Him [Jesus, the Messiah] outside [beyond, external to] the camp [barracks, military outpost], bearing [carrying, enduring] the disgrace [reproach, shame] He bore [suffered, endured]. word study 14 For here [in this earthly realm] we do not have [possess or hold] a permanent [lasting, enduring] city [a town with walls], but we are looking for [seeking after, searching] the city that is to come [to ensue, to be revealed]. word study 15 Through [because of, by means of] Jesus, therefore [then, as a consequence], let us continually [always, at all times] offer [present, give] to God [the one true deity] a sacrifice [offering, gift] of praise [thanksgiving, worship], the fruit [product, result] of lips [words, confession] that confess [acknowledge, profess] His name [character, authority, reputation]. word study 16 And do not neglect [forget, overlook] to do good [show kindness, acts of charity] and to share [distribute, impart] with others [fellow believers, those in need], for with such [these kinds of] sacrifices [offerings, gifts] God [the Almighty, Creator] is pleased [well-pleased, satisfied]. word study 17 Obey [submit to, follow] your leaders [those who have the rule over you, spiritual guides] and submit [yield, surrender] to them, for they watch over [guard, protect] your souls [the seat of emotions, desires, and spiritual life] as those who must give an account [render a reckoning, provide a justification]. To this end, allow them to lead [guide, direct] with joy [deep and lasting happiness] and not with grief [sorrow, sadness, groaning], for that would be of no advantage [unprofitable, useless] to you. word study 18 Pray [make petitions to God] for us; we are convinced [fully persuaded, having faith] that we have a clear [good, pure] conscience [moral awareness, inner sense of right and wrong] and desire [intentionally will, long to] to live [behave, conduct ourselves] honorably [well, righteously, in a morally good way] in every [all, each] way [manner, aspect of life]. word study 19 And I especially [more exceedingly, beyond measure] urge [plead with, comfort] you to pray [call upon God, intercede] that I may be [completely, fully] restored [brought back to a former state, reconciled] to you [in your presence, face to face] soon [quickly, without delay, the sooner]. word study 20 Now may the God [of all comfort and peace] of peace, who through the blood [of the atoning sacrifice] of the eternal [lasting forever, age-during] covenant brought back from the dead [raised to life again] our Lord Jesus, that great [mighty, powerful] Shepherd [Guide and Protector] of the sheep [believers, followers of Christ], word study 21 equip you with every [all, complete] good [beneficial, pleasing] thing to do His [God’s, divine] will [desire, intention]. And may He accomplish [complete, fulfill] in us what is [well-pleasing, acceptable] pleasing in His sight [presence, approval] through Jesus Christ [the Messiah, our Savior], to whom be glory [honor, praise] forever [eternally, always] and ever [through all ages]. Amen [so be it, truly]. word study 22 I urge [plead with, comfort] you, brothers [fellow believers, male siblings], to bear with [endure, patiently consider] my word [message, idea] of exhortation [encouragement, solace], for I have only written [communicated through a letter] to you briefly [in few words, concisely]. word study 23 Be aware [know and understand] that our brother [fellow Christian, male sibling] Timothy [dear to God] has been released [set at liberty, freed from prison]. If he arrives [comes, reaches] soon [shortly, quickly], I will come [go, travel] with him [accompanied by, together with] to see [perceive, visit] you. word study 24 Greet [salute, pay respects to] all your leaders [those who have the rule over you, spiritual guides] and all the saints [holy ones, set apart for God]. Those from [away from, originating in] Italy [the region, the land] send you greetings [salute, express love and farewell]. word study 25 Grace [divine influence, graciousness] be with [accompany, among] all [every one, everything] of you [as a group, together]. word study
