Jeremiah 45

1 This is the word [message, declaration] that Jeremiah [whom Jehovah has appointed, a major prophet] the prophet [one who speaks for God] spoke to Baruch [blessed] son of Neriah [an Israelite, father of Baruch and Seraiah] when he wrote [recorded, inscribed] these words [events, matters] on a scroll [written document, book] at the dictation [mouth, command] of Jeremiah in the fourth [quadriennial] year of Jehoiakim [Jehovah raises up, a king of Judah] son of Josiah [whom Jehovah heals, a king of Judah], king of Judah [a tribe descended from Judah, the son of Jacob]: word study 2 “This is what [thus, in this manner] the LORD [Yehovah, the God of covenant], the God [Elohim, the supreme One] of Israel [the descendants of Jacob, the chosen people], says [declares, speaks] to you [unto thee, O Baruch], Baruch [blessed, one who is favored]: word study 3 You have said, ‘Woe is me because the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] has added [increased, intensified] sorrow [grief, anguish] to my pain [physical or mental suffering]! I am worn out [exhausted, weary] with groaning [sighing, lamenting] and have found [discovered, attained] no rest [peace, quietness].’” word study 4 Thus Jeremiah was to say to Baruch: “This [in this manner, at this time] is what the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] says: Throughout the land [the whole country, all the territory] I will demolish [tear down, overthrow] what I have built [established, constructed] and uproot [pluck up, destroy] what I have planted [established, cultivated]. word study 5 But as for you, do you seek [pursue, strive for] great things [important, significant matters] for yourself? Stop [cease, do not] seeking! For I will bring [cause, inflict] disaster [evil, calamity] on every living creature [all flesh, humanity], declares the LORD [Yehovah, the sovereign God], but wherever you go [walk, journey], I will grant [give, bestow] your life [soul, existence] as a spoil of war [a prey, a treasure].” word study
