Leviticus 12
BSA1 Then the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] said [to speak, communicate, or command] to Moses [the Israelite leader, mediator between God and the people], word study 2 “Say [speak, command] to the Israelites [the descendants of Jacob], ‘A woman [female, wife] who becomes pregnant [conceives seed] and gives birth [begets] to a son [male child] will be unclean [ceremonially impure, defiled] for seven days, as she is during the days of her menstruation [her monthly impurity, sickness, infirmity] [a time of separation, uncleanness]. word study 3 And on the eighth [eighth day of life, after birth] day the flesh [body, living being] of the boy’s foreskin [uncircumcised state, natural condition] is to be [shall be, must be] circumcised [cut off, removed, to cut off the foreskin as a sign of covenant]. word study 4 The woman shall continue [remain, abide] in purification [ceremonial cleansing] from her bleeding [blood of her purifying] for thirty-three [three and thirty] days [a literal 24-hour period or a figurative space of time]. She must not [lacking permission] touch [reach out to] anything sacred [holy thing] or go [enter] into the sanctuary [holy place] until the days [a period of time] of her purification [process of cleansing] are complete [fulfilled]. word study 5 If, however, she gives birth [begets, brings forth] to a daughter [female child, girl], the woman will be unclean [ceremonially impure, defiled] for two weeks [a period of fourteen days] as she is during her menstruation [monthly impurity, separation]. Then she must continue in purification [cleansing, ritual purity] from her bleeding [blood, discharge] for sixty-six [sixty and six] days. word study 6 When the days [periods of time, seasons] of her purification [ceremonial cleansing, ritual purity] are complete [fulfilled, finished], whether for a son [male child, descendant] or for a daughter [female child, offspring], she is to bring to the priest [spiritual leader, mediator] at the entrance [doorway, gateway] to the Tent of Meeting [tabernacle, sacred dwelling] a year-old [one-year-old, mature] lamb [young ram, sacrifice] for a burnt offering [atoning sacrifice, consecration] and a young pigeon [dove] or a turtledove for a sin offering [atonement, purification]. word study 7 And the priest will present [offer, bring near] them before the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] and make atonement [cover, reconcile] for her; and she shall be ceremonially [morally, ritually] cleansed [purified, made whole] from her flow of blood [the issue of her blood, the fountain of her life]. This is the law [instruction, guidance] for a woman giving birth [begetting, bringing forth], whether to a male [a son, a boy] or to a female [a daughter, a girl]. word study 8 But if she cannot afford [is not able to bring, does not have the means for] a lamb [sheep, young animal], she shall bring [take, offer] two turtledoves [doves, pigeons] or two young pigeons [sons of doves], one [the first, a single] for a burnt offering [a step to the altar, a sacrifice to be completely consumed] and the other [the second, another] for a sin offering [a sacrifice to atone for sin, a purification offering]. Then the priest [the spiritual leader, mediator] will make atonement [cover, purify, make amends] for her, and she will be clean [pure, ceremonially cleansed, forgiven].’” word study
