Philippians 4

BSA

1 Therefore, my brothers [beloved and longed for], whom I love [cherish deeply] and long for [yearn to see], my joy [deepest happiness] and crown [symbol of honor], that is how you must stand firm [be unshakeable] in the Lord [God, our Master], my beloved [dearly loved ones]. word study 2 I urge [exhort, plead with] Euodia [a Christian woman, fine] and Syntyche [a Christian woman, having a harmonious relationship] to agree [be of the same mind, think the same way] with each other [to be of one accord] in the Lord [God, Master, having authority over all]. word study 3 Yes, and I ask [beseech, request] you, my true [genuine, faithful] yokefellow, to help [assist, support] these women who have labored [worked, strived] with me for the gospel [good news, message of salvation], along with Clement and the rest of my fellow workers [co-laborers, partners], whose names are in the Book [scroll, record] of Life [eternal life, spiritual existence]. word study 4 Rejoice [be glad, happy] in the Lord [God, Master] always [at all times, continually]. I will say [speak, utter] it again [once more, anew]: Rejoice [cheer, delight]! word study 5 Let your [gentle, moderate, forbearing] gentleness [fairness, patience] be apparent [known, visible] to [all people, everyone] all. The [supreme] Lord [God, Master] is [at hand, coming soon] near. word study 6 Be anxious [have no cares, worry about nothing] for nothing, but in everything [all things, every situation], by prayer [to God, supplication] and petition [request, supplication], with thanksgiving [gratitude, giving of thanks], present [make known, let be known] your requests [needs, desires] to God [the one true deity]. word study 7 And the peace [deeper than all knowledge, surpassing understanding] of God [the one true deity, Creator of all], which surpasses [excels, is higher than] all understanding [thought, intellect], will guard [protect, keep safe] your hearts [the seat of thoughts, feelings, and emotions] and your minds [thoughts, perceptions, and intentions] in [through, because of] Christ Jesus [the anointed Messiah, God’s salvation]. word study 8 Finally, brothers [fellow believers, brethren], whatever is true [honest, real], whatever is honorable [noble, worthy of respect], whatever is right [just, fair], whatever is pure [clean, innocent], whatever is lovely [pleasant, agreeable], whatever is admirable [commendable, of good report]—if anything is excellent [of great value, virtuous] or praiseworthy [worthy of praise, commendation]—think on these things [meditate on, consider them]. word study 9 Whatever [things you have learned, received, and seen] you have learned [through experience and teaching] or received [taken to heart] or heard [listened and understood] from me, or seen [observed and perceived] in me, put it [these things, this wisdom] into practice [habitually and repeatedly]. And the God [the supreme deity, source of all peace] of peace [harmony, tranquility, and wholeness] will be with [accompany, guide, and bless] you. word study 10 Now I rejoice greatly [exceedingly] in the Lord [God, the supreme authority] that at last [finally, after some time] you have revived [renewed, flourished again] your concern [care, thought] for me [on my behalf, regarding my well-being]. You were indeed [truly, also] concerned [caring, thoughtful], but you had no opportunity [lacked chance, were unable] to show [demonstrate, express] it [your care, support]. word study 11 I am not saying this out of [poverty, need or want] need, for I have learned [through experience and spiritual growth] to be [self-sufficient, content and independent] content regardless of [in every circumstance, whatever state I am in] my circumstances [trials, challenges and situations]. word study 12 I know how to live humbly [in a state of lowliness, to be abased], and I know how to abound [to exceed, have more than enough]. I am accustomed to any and every situation [in all things, everywhere]—to being filled [to feed, satisfy] and being hungry [to feel a strong need], to having plenty [to abound, have more than enough] and having need [to lack, fall short]. word study 13 I can do [am able to cope with] all things [every situation, all circumstances] through Christ [the Anointed One, Jesus] who gives me [empowers, strengthens] strength [inner power, ability to overcome]. word study 14 Nevertheless [howbeit, but], you have done [acted, made] well [rightly, in a morally good way] to share [have fellowship, communicate] in my [personal, as a gift to me] affliction [pressure, tribulation]. word study 15 And as you Philippians [inhabitants of Philippi, dear friends] know, in the early days [beginning, initial stages] of the gospel [good news, message of salvation], when I left [departed from, went away from] Macedonia, no church [assembly, community of believers] but you [alone, exclusively] partnered with me [shared with me, had fellowship with me] in the matter of giving [gift, act of generosity] and receiving [getting, accepting]. word study 16 For even while I was in [the city of] Thessalonica, you provided for my [physical and spiritual] needs [necessity, requirement] again and again [once and again, repeatedly]. word study 17 Not that I am seeking [looking for, desiring] a gift [present, offering], but I am looking for [searching after, desiring] the fruit [product, result] that may be credited [added, accounted] to your account [record, reckoning]. word study 18 I have [all things, and more than enough] all I need and more, now that I have received your gifts [a generous donation, a fragrant offering] from Epaphroditus [a faithful minister, a servant of God]. They are [an odor of a sweet smell, a pleasing aroma] a fragrant offering [well-pleasing to God], an acceptable sacrifice [a gift, an act of worship], well-pleasing to God [the supreme deity, the Creator of all]. word study 19 And my God [the supreme Creator, Elohim] will supply [fulfill, provide for] all your needs [requirements, necessities] according to His glorious [in glory, resplendent] riches [wealth, abundance] in Christ Jesus [the Anointed One, the Messiah]. word study 20 To our God [the supreme deity, Father of all] and Father [the male parent, provider, and protector] be glory [honor, praise, admiration] forever [for all eternity, time without end] and ever [perpetually, without cessation]. Amen [so be it, a statement of affirmation]. word study 21 Greet [salute, pay respects to] all [every, each one] the saints [holy ones, set apart] in [through, united with] Christ [the Anointed One, Messiah] Jesus [God’s salvation]. The brothers [fellow believers, Christian siblings] who are with [together, in companionship] me send you [greet, salute] greetings [words of love, fond thoughts]. word study 22 All [every single one, the entire community] the saints [holy ones, set apart] send [pay respects to, greet] you [directly, as individuals] greetings [salutations, words of welcome], especially [mostly, to a greater degree] those [believers, followers of Christ] from [out of, originating in] the household [home, family] of Caesar [the Roman emperor, the ruling authority]. word study 23 The [divine, unmerited] grace [favor, kindness] of the [Sovereign] Lord [Master, God] Jesus [God is salvation] Christ [the Anointed One, Messiah] be with [accompany, remain with] your [inner, spiritual] spirit [the non-physical part of a person]. word study
