He stretches [spreads, expands] out the heavens [the visible universe, the sky] like a tent [curtain, drape], word study 3 laying [to meet, to build with beams] the beams of His chambers [upper rooms, lofty places] in the waters [liquid, source of refreshment] above, making [to set, to appoint] the clouds [dark clouds, thick clouds] His chariot [vehicle, means of transportation], walking [to go, to move] on the wings [edges, extremities] of the wind [a blast of air]. word study 4 He makes [creates, brings into being] the winds [spirits, breath of life] His messengers [angels, divine representatives], flames [a blazing fire, kindled] of fire [burning, flame] His servants [ministers, those who serve]. word study 5 He set [laid, founded, established] the earth [land, ground, territory] on its foundations [base, fixed place], never [not, under no circumstances] to be moved [shaken, wavered, disturbed]. word study 6 You covered [with the deep as with a vesture, clothed] it with the deep [abyss, Tehom, the subterranean water supply] like a garment [clothing, as with a robe]; the waters [the liquid, a source of refreshment] stood [to stand, in a strong sense] above [on, upon] the mountains [hills]. word study 7 At Your [stern, divine] rebuke [from Thy rebuke, at Thy command] the waters [oceans, seas] fled [hasted away, rushed away]; at the sound [voice] of Your thunder [the voice of Thy thunder, like thunder] they hurried [hasted, fled in fear] away— word study 8 the mountains [hills] rose and the valleys [low areas, plains] sank to the place [location, region] You assigned [founded, established] for them— word study 9 You set [established, appointed] a boundary [border, limit] they cannot cross [pass over, transcend], that they may never again [turn back, return to] cover [overflow, overwhelm] the earth [land, ground]. word study 10 He sends forth [releases, appoints] springs [fountains, sources of satisfaction] in the valleys [low-lying areas, ravines]; they flow [run, go on] between [among, in the midst of] the mountains [hills]. word study 11 They give drink [provide water, quench thirst] to every [all, each] beast [living creature, animal] of the field [wilderness, open land]; the wild [feral, untamed] donkeys [onagers, wild asses] quench [satisfy, break] their thirst [dryness, parched condition]. word study 12 The birds [fowls of the heaven, winged creatures] of the air [heaven, sky] nest [have their habitation, dwell] beside [by, near] the springs [streams, water sources]; they sing [give forth their voice, make music] among [between, from within] the branches [limbs, foliage of trees]. word study 13 He waters [sends down rain, gives drink to] the mountains [hills] from His chambers [upper room, lofty place, from above]; the earth [land, ground, creation] is satisfied [filled, fulfilled, content] by the fruit [produce, results, outcome] of His works [deeds, actions, creations]. word study 14 He makes the grass [vegetation, herb] grow [causes to spring, brings forth] for the livestock [cattle, animals] and provides [suffers to grow] crops [plants, herbe] for man [the human, Adam] to cultivate, bringing [to come out, producing] forth food [bread, grain] from the earth [land, ground]: word study 15 wine [that maketh glad, rejoices] that gladdens the heart [mind, will, and emotions] of man [human, mankind], oil [to make his face shine, anoint] that makes his face [presence, countenance] to shine, and bread [food, grain, sustenance] that sustains [supports, strengthens] his heart [innermost being, soul]. word study 16 The trees [filled with moisture, well-watered] of the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God] have their fill [are satisfied, full of sap], the cedars [known for strength and durability] of Lebanon [a mountain range in Israel, named for its white snow or limestone peaks] that He [as the Creator] planted [established, fixed], word study 17 where the birds [little creatures, sparrows] build [make, occupy] their nests; the sun [the sun; the east or the west] knows [to ascertain, perceive] when to set [its going down, entrance into the west]. word study 20 You bring [cause to fall, set] darkness [physical and spiritual], and it becomes [comes to be, exists as] night [a period of rest, adversity], when all [everything, the entirety] the beasts [living creatures, animals] of the forest [woodland, wild area] prowl [creep, move lightly]. word study 21 The young lions roar [roaring with strength] for their prey [torn apart, food] and seek [searching diligently] their food [nourishment, sustenance] from God [the Almighty, Provider]. word study 22 The sun [the sun; the east or the west] rises [to shine, comes up], and they withdraw [gather themselves, get them away]; they lie down [stretch, rest] in their dens [habitations, secret places]. word study 23 Man [the human, Adam] goes forth [to come out, leaves] to his work [labor, deed] and to his labor [service, task] until [as far as, till] evening [sunset, end of day]. word study 24 How many [manifold, numerous] are Your works [deeds, actions], O LORD [Yehovah]!
