1 Hallelujah [praise the Lord, rejoice]! Give praise [extol, magnify], O servants [slaves, bondservants] of the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God]; praise [honor, glorify] the name [reputation, character] of the LORD [Yehovah]. word study 2 Blessed [praised, honored] be the name [identity, character] of the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God] both [from this time forth] now [at this time, from henceforth] and [till, as far as] forevermore [always, eternally]. word study 3 From where the sun [the east, the sunrise] rises [from the east] to where it sets [till the west], the name [identity, honor, and character] of the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] is praised [to be celebrated]. word study 4 The LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] is exalted [high above, lifted up] over all [every, the entire] the nations [Gentiles, non-Hebrew peoples], His glory [great honor, splendor] above [higher than, surpassing] the heavens [the visible universe, the abode of God]. word study 5 Who [like no other] is like the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] our God [Elohim, the one supreme God], the One [exalting Himself, seated in majesty] enthroned [dwelling, having His seat] on high [in the highest heaven, lofty and exalted]? word study 6 He [stoops down] humbles Himself to behold [look down on, see, care for] the heavens [the visible universe, sky] and the earth [land, ground, creation]. word study 7 He raises [lifts up, exalts] the poor [needy, weak, destitute] from the dust [dry earth, clay] and lifts [exalteth, helps up] the needy [oppressed, impoverished] from the dump [dunghill, ash heap, refuse] word study 8 to seat them [with great honor, in a position of dignity] with nobles [noble and generous leaders, princes of high rank], with the princes [leaders, rulers, or officials] of His people [His nation, Amaw, a people belonging to Him]. word study 9 He settles [makes to dwell, causes to inhabit] the barren [sterile, unable to bear children] woman in her home [house, family] as a joyful [glad, happy] mother [female parent, nurturer] to her children [sons, descendants].
