Psalms 138
BSA1 I give You thanks [with deepest gratitude, from the heart] with all [every part of] my heart [inner being, will, and intellect]; before [in the presence of, facing] the gods [heavenly beings, idols] I sing [make music, praise] Your praises [hymns of adoration, worship]. word study 2 I bow down [in reverence and worship] toward Your holy [set-apart, sacred] temple and give thanks [praise and acknowledge] to Your name [Your character and reputation] for Your loving devotion [kindness and mercy] and Your faithfulness [trustworthiness and reliability]; You have exalted [magnified and elevated] Your name [Your identity and honor] and Your word [Your promises and declarations] above all else [everything and everyone]. word study 3 On the day [of distress, when I cried out] I called [to You for help], You answered me; You emboldened [strengthened, encouraged] me and strengthened [with might, encreased strength in] my soul [living being, the essence of my being]. word study 4 All [every single one] the kings [royal rulers, monarchs] of the earth [land, world] will give You thanks [praise, acknowledge Your greatness], O LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God], when they hear [listen, obey] the words [speech, sayings] of Your mouth [lips, voice]. word study 5 They will sing [yea, make songs] of the ways [paths, manner of life] of the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], for [because, since] the glory [great honor, splendor] of the LORD [the supreme God] is great [of great magnitude, importance]. word study 6 Though the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] is on high [exalted, elevated], He attends to [looks after, cares for] the lowly [humble, those of low social status]; but the proud [haughty, lifted up in pride] He knows [recognizes, has knowledge of] from afar [at a distance, in a far-off place]. word study 7 If I walk [surrounded by] in the midst of trouble, You preserve [revive, give life to] me from the anger [wrath, fierce indignation] of my foes [enemies, adversaries]; You extend [stretch forth, reach out] Your hand [power, direction], and Your right hand [the right hand or side; the south] saves [delivers, rescues] me. word study 8 The LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] will fulfill [perfect, complete] His purpose [plan, intention] for me. O LORD [Yehovah, the Lord of mercy], Your loving devotion [kindness, mercy, faithful love] endures [lasts, remains] forever [always, to the age]— do not [let not] abandon [forsake, give up] the works [deeds, actions] of Your hands [power, direction]. word study
