Psalms 23

1 The LORD [Yehovah, the divine Shepherd] is my shepherd [caring for me as a shepherd tends his flock]; I shall not [in no way, never] want [lack or be without, experience need]. word study 2 He makes me lie down [to rest, to stretch] in green [lush, tender] pastures [habitation, dwelling place]; He leads [guides, directs] me beside [by the side of, near] quiet [still, peaceful] waters [streams, sources of refreshment]. word study 3 He restores [revives, gives new life to] my soul [the essence of my being, living being]; He guides [leadeth, directeth] me in the paths [tracks, roads] of righteousness [justice, moral integrity] for the sake [because, for the purpose] of His name [identity, character, reputation]. word study 4 Even though [in spite of, regardless] I walk [proceed, journey] through the valley [lowland, gorge] of the shadow [darkness, gloom] of death [separation, eternal loss], I will fear [dread, be afraid] no [none, not any] evil [harm, wickedness], for [because, since] You [the Lord, God] are with me [accompanying, beside]; Your rod [shepherd’s staff] and Your staff [support, comfort], they [emphatically, assuredly] comfort [console, reassure] me. word study 5 You prepare [set in order, arrange] a table [a place of communion] before me in the presence [face, before] of my enemies [those who oppose me]. You anoint [to prosper, satisfy] my head [the topmost part of the body] with oil [olive oil, ointment]; my cup [a vessel of blessing] overflows [abundance, more than enough]. word study 6 Surely [certainly, without a doubt] goodness [pleasant, beneficial, welfare] and mercy [lovingkindness, pity, kindness] will follow [pursue, chase after] me all [every, the whole of] the days [periods of time, ages] of my life [existence, being alive], and I will dwell [sit, remain, abide] in the house [dwelling place, temple] of the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God] forever [for a length of time, eternally]. word study
