Psalms 38
BSA1 O LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God], do not rebuke [scold, reprove] me in Your anger [wrath, fierce indignation] or discipline [chasten, correct] me in Your wrath [hot displeasure, fierce passion]. word study 2 For Your arrows [piercing deeply, sticking fast] have pierced me deeply [wounded me, come down on me], and Your hand [pressing down, laying heavily] has pressed down on me [with intense pressure, sorely]. word study 3 There is no soundness [health, wholeness] in my body [flesh, physical being] because of Your anger [indignation, wrath]; there is no rest [peace, tranquility] in my bones [entire being, inner self] because of my sin [transgression, rebellion]. word study 4 For my iniquities [sins, transgressions, lawlessness] have overwhelmed [gone over my head, flooded] me; they are a burden [heavy load, weighty guilt] too heavy [more than I can bear, overwhelming] to bear [carry, endure]. word study 5 My wounds [loathsome, infected, and smelling] are foul [stinking, putrified] and festering [corrupt, becoming worse] because of my sinful [moral evil, iniquity] folly [foolishness, stupidity, doing foolish things]. word study 6 I am bent [doubled up in pain, troubled] and brought low [made humble, bowed down greatly]; all day long [continually, every day] I go about [walk around, mourning with sorrow] mourning [weeping, crying my eyes out]. word study 7 For my loins [filled with a loathsome disease, inner being] are full of burning pain [intensely burning, with fever], and no soundness [health, wholeness] remains in my body [flesh, physical form]. word study 8 I am numb [feeble, weakened] and badly crushed [sorely bruised, severely broken]; I groan [roar, cry out] in anguish [disquietness, grief] of heart [my inner being, my emotions]. word study 9 O Lord [my Master], my every desire [deepest longings, all my heart’s wishes] is before You [in Your presence, laid out]; my groaning [sighing, deep sorrow] is not hidden [concealed, kept secret] from You [Your awareness, Your sight]. word study 10 My heart [panteth, throbbeth] pounds, my strength fails [is wasting away], and even the light [sight, eyesight] of my eyes [the window to my soul] has faded. word study 11 My beloved [lovers, dear ones] and friends [neighbors, companions] shun [stand aloof from, avoid] my disease [plague, affliction], and my kinsmen [relatives, family members] stand [keep, remain] at a distance [far away, afar off]. word study 12 Those who seek [pursue, aim to destroy] my life [soul, very being] lay snares [traps, plots]; those who wish [desire, intend] me harm [evil, injury] speak [utter, declare] destruction [mischievous things, wicked words], plotting [meditating, imagining] deceit [falsehoods, lies] all day long [continually, every day]. word study 13 But like a deaf man [not hearing, unresponsive], I do not hear [or listen, give attention]; and like a mute man [unable to speak, silent], I do not open my mouth [to speak or respond, remaining quiet]. word study 14 I [like a man who heareth not] am like a man who cannot hear [deaf, spiritually or physically], whose mouth [lips, edge of speech] offers no reply [no reproofs, unable to speak, mute]. word study 15 I wait [hope, trust] for You, O LORD [my Rock, my Redeemer]; You will answer [hear, respond to], O Lord [my Savior] my God. word study 16 For [because of this reason] I said, “Let them not [allow them to] gloat [rejoice, triumph] over me— those who [my enemies, they] taunt [mock, ridicule] me when my foot [steps, path] slips [is moved, falters].” word study 17 For [because of this reason] I am ready to fall [about to collapse, on the verge of stumbling], and my pain [sorrow, continual suffering] is ever [continually, always] with me [before me, in my presence]. word study 18 Yes, I [freely, willingly] confess my iniquity [sin, wrongdoing]; I am troubled [sorrowful, grieved] by my sin [transgression, rebellion against God]. word study 19 Many [lively, vigorous] are my enemies [those who hate me wrongfully] without cause [without reason, unprovoked], and many [they have been strong, numerous] hate me [hate me wrongfully, are against me falsely] without reason [without a just cause, unprovoked]. word study 20 Those who repay my good [in return for kindness] with evil [harm, wrongdoing] attack me [are my adversaries, oppose me] for pursuing [following, seeking after] the good [what is right, righteousness]. word study 21 Do not [abandon, give up on] forsake me, O LORD [my divine Savior]; be not [stay away, distant] far from me, O my God [my loving Creator, my Redeemer]. word study 22 Come quickly [hasten, make haste] to help me, O Lord [Yehovah, my salvation] my Savior [deliverer, rescuer]. word study
