1 Praise [waiteth for thee, is rightly due to thee] awaits You, O God [the Supreme Being, our Creator], in Zion [the city of God, the holy place]; to You our vows [promises, solemn oaths] will be fulfilled [performed, kept]. word study 2 O You [who hears and answers] who listen to prayer [and supplication], all people [flesh, mankind] will come [draw near, have access] to You [in worship and adoration]. word study 3 When iniquities [evils, wicked deeds] prevail against me, You [as our merciful God] atone for [forgive, purge away] our transgressions [sins, disobedience]. word study 4 Blessed [happy, fortunate] is the one You choose [select, elect] and bring near [cause to approach, draw close] to dwell [live, reside] in Your courts [temple, sacred precincts]! We are filled [satisfied, delighted] with the goodness [kindness, generosity] of Your house [temple, dwelling place], the holiness [sanctity, purity] of Your temple [sacred place, holy sanctuary]. word study 5 With awesome [fearful, terrible] deeds of righteousness [justice, moral integrity] You answer us, O God [the supreme Creator, our Savior] of our salvation [deliverance, rescue], the hope [confidence, trust] of all the ends of the earth [the farthest lands, distant nations] and of the farthest [most distant, remote] seas [oceans, vast waters]. word study 6 You [by Your own strength] formed the mountains [establishing them firmly] by Your power [might, strength], having girded [wrapped, clothed] Yourself with might [great strength, power]. word study 7 You stilled [calmed, restrained] the roaring [noise, tumult] of the seas [oceans, waves], the pounding [crashing, raging] of their waves [billows, surges], and the tumult [uproar, commotion] of the nations [peoples, multitudes]. word study 8 Those who live [in the uttermost parts, very remote] far away [distant lands] fear [are afraid, have awe] Your [divine] wonders [signs, tokens]; You make [cause] the dawn [outgoings of the morning] and sunset [evening, west] shout [rejoice, sing] for joy [with songs of joy]. word study 9 You attend to [care for, visit] the earth and water [irrigate, nourish] it; with abundance [richly, generously] You enrich [make fertile, prosper] it. The streams [rivers, channels] of God [the divine Provider] are full of water [filled to capacity, overflowing], for You prepare [provide, cultivate] our grain [crops, harvest] by providing [sustaining, supplying] for the earth. word study 10 You soak [water abundantly, fill to overflowing] its furrows [plowed fields, cultivated land] and level [settle, make smooth] its ridges [high ground, hills]; You soften [make gentle, calm] it with showers [rain, abundant water] and bless [bring prosperity to, enrich] its growth [springing up, young plants, crops]. word study 11 You crown [adorn, complete] the year with Your bounty [goodness, abundance], and Your paths [ways, journey] overflow [drop, abound] with plenty [fatness, rich provision]. word study 12 The pastures [grasslands, wilderness areas] of the wilderness [desolate, uninhabited regions] overflow [are filled to abundance, drip with plenty]; the hills [little hills, rounded elevations] are robed [girded, clothed] with joy [gladness, happiness, pleasantness]. word study 13 The pastures [grass-lands, meadows] are clothed [covered, thick] with flocks [sheep and goats], and the valleys [lowlands, plains] are decked [covered over, full] with grain [corn, fields of grain]. They shout [cry out, sing triumphantly] in triumph [for joy, with joyful voices]; indeed, they sing [also shout, rejoice]. word study
