Psalms 82
BSA1 God [Elohim, the supreme Judge] presides [stands in judgment, has dominion] in the divine [heavenly, godly] assembly [congregation, gathering of the mighty]; He renders [executes, carries out] judgment [vindication, justice] among the gods [rulers, mighty ones, those having God’s nature]: word study 2 “How long [until when, for how much time] will you judge [govern, vindicate] unjustly [with injustice, unfairly] and show partiality [respect, favor] to the wicked [morally wrong, guilty of sin]? Selah [a pause, a musical rest] word study 3 Defend [judge, vindicate] the cause of the weak [poor, destitute] and fatherless [orphans, without a father]; uphold [maintain, do justice to] the rights of the afflicted [troubled, humble] and oppressed [needy, suffering]. word study 4 Rescue [snatch away, deliver] the weak [poor, oppressed] and needy [those in distress, impoverished]; save [deliver, set free] them from the hand [power, control] of the wicked [morally wrong, evil-doers]. word study 5 They do not [have no knowledge or sense] know or [are without] understand; they wander [walk to and fro, live] in the darkness [a time of sadness or trouble]; all [everything, the whole] the foundations [bases, underlying supports] of the earth [land, the material world] are shaken [out of course, unstable]. word study 6 I [the all-powerful God] have said, ‘You are [divine beings, having God’s nature] gods; you are all [children, sons and daughters] sons of the [supreme, sovereign] Most High [the Almighty, eternal Father].’ word study 7 But like [as surely as] mortals [human beings, frail and temporary] you will die [cease to exist, perish], and like [in the same manner as] rulers [princes, leaders, those in authority] you will fall [be overthrown, come to an end].” word study 8 Arise [stand up, rise to power], O God [Elohim, the supreme Judge], judge [vindicate, govern] the earth [land, nations], for [because, since] all [every, the whole] the nations [Gentiles, people-groups] are [belong to, are the inheritance of] Your [your own, as your possession] inheritance [heritage, possession]. word study
