1 Chronicles 11:30 Summary

This verse tells us about two of King David's brave warriors, Maharai and Heled, who were from the city of Netophah. They were part of a special group of men known for their courage and loyalty to David, as seen in other parts of the Bible like 2 Samuel 23:28-29. Just like these men, we can show our love and commitment to God by being brave and faithful in our own lives, as encouraged in Joshua 1:9 and Hebrews 13:5-6. By following their example, we can trust that God will use us to accomplish great things, just as He did with David and his mighty men, as promised in 1 Chronicles 17:23-27.

Jamieson-Fausset-Brown on 1 Chronicles 11:30

Maharai the Netophathite, Heled the son of Baanah the Netophathite, Maharai - chief of the detachment of the guards who attended on the king in the tenth mouth, January (1 Chronicles 27:13; 2 Samuel 23:28).

Ellicott's Commentary on 1 Chronicles 11:30

(30) Maharai the Netophathite, of Netophah, a Levitical canton (1 Chronicles 9:16). By family Maharai was a Zarhite (1 Chronicles 27:13). Heled.—More correct than (Heleb) Samuel. Called Heldai (1 Chronicles 27:15). He was of the clan Othniel.

Cambridge Bible on 1 Chronicles 11:30

30. Maharai the Netophathite] So in 1 Chronicles 27:13, with “of the Zerahites” (R.V.) added. A Netophathite might come either from Netophah (a village in Judah not far from Beth-lehem), or from the “villages of the Netophathites” (1 Chronicles 9:16, note). Heled] In 1 Chronicles 27:15 “Heldai,” a name found in Zechariah 6:10. “Heleb” in 2 Samuel 23:29 is probably a wrong reading.
