1 Chronicles 3:24 Summary

This verse lists the seven sons of Elioenai, who was a descendant of Shecaniah. The Bible records the genealogy of the Israelites to show how God worked through their families and history, as seen in Romans 11:1-36 and 1 Peter 2:9-10. Just like the Israelites, we can use our own families and heritage to glorify God and tell the story of His love and faithfulness, as seen in Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and Psalm 78:1-8. By understanding and appreciating our own family history, we can better understand God's plan for our lives and our place in His larger story.

Ellicott's Commentary on 1 Chronicles 3:24

(24) The sons of Elioenai . . . Hodaiah.—These sons of Elioenai are the sixth generation from Zerubbabel , that is to say, they were living about 345 B.C. , under Artaxerxes Ochus. If the reading of the LXX. in 1 Chronicles 3:21 be correct, their date is four generations later, or about 225 B.C. The result is to bring down the date of the chronicle a century lower than the best critics approve. (See Introduction.)

Adam Clarke's Commentary on 1 Chronicles 3:24

Verse 24. And Anani] "This is the King Messiah who is to be revealed." - T. Jarchi says the same, and refers to Daniel 7:13: Behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds (ענני ananey) of heaven. For this application of the word he gives a fanciful reason, not worthy to be repeated. The Syriac and Arabic omit several names in this table, and make only twenty-three verses in the chapter: but such differences are frequent in the books of Chronicles.

Cambridge Bible on 1 Chronicles 3:24

24. Hodaiah] R.V. Hodaviah (as in 1 Chronicles 5:24). Another significant name “Thank ye Jehovah.”
