1 Chronicles 6:70 Summary

This verse tells us that the Kohathites, a clan of the Levites, received the towns of Aner and Bileam, along with their pasturelands, as part of their inheritance. This shows us that God cares about the details of our lives and wants to provide for us, as seen in Matthew 6:25-34. Just like the Kohathites, we can trust that God has a plan for us and will provide for our needs, as mentioned in Philippians 4:19. By looking at this verse, we can see that God's plan is not just for a specific group of people, but for all of us, as described in 2 Peter 3:9.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the significance of the half-tribe of Manasseh in 1 Chronicles 6:70?

The half-tribe of Manasseh is important because it was one of the tribes of Israel that received an inheritance on the east side of the Jordan River, as seen in Joshua 13:29-31, and it played a significant role in the allocation of land to the Kohathites, as mentioned in 1 Chronicles 6:70.

Who are the Kohathites and why are they mentioned in this verse?

The Kohathites were a clan of the Levites, and they are mentioned in 1 Chronicles 6:70 as receiving the towns of Aner and Bileam, along with their pasturelands, as part of their inheritance, similar to what is described in Numbers 35:1-8 and Joshua 21:1-45.

What can we learn from the way the land was allocated to the different tribes and clans in the Bible?

The allocation of land to the different tribes and clans in the Bible teaches us about God's sovereignty and provision, as seen in Deuteronomy 8:7-10, and it reminds us that our inheritance is not just physical, but also spiritual, as mentioned in 1 Peter 1:3-5.

How does this verse relate to the broader theme of God's covenant with Israel?

This verse is part of the larger narrative of God's covenant with Israel, as described in Genesis 12:1-3, and it highlights God's faithfulness to His promises, as seen in Psalm 105:8-11, and His desire to provide for and care for His people, as mentioned in Matthew 6:25-34.

Ellicott's Commentary on 1 Chronicles 6:70

(70) Aner . . . Bileam.—Joshua 21:25 reads, “Taa-nach [see Joshua 17:11] and Gath-rimmon.” The latter is a mere repetition from the preceding verse. Bileam is a man’s name, being the Hebrew spelling of Balaam. It should be Ibleam (Joshua 17:11). So the LXX. Aner (Genesis 14:13) is also a man, one of Abraham’s allies. Taanach is probably right, the last three letters of the Hebrew word closely resembling those of Aner. For the family.—Better, unto the family of the sons of Kohath who were left. This depends on the idea of giving (1 Chronicles 6:67). The phrase is a sort of subscription to the whole list of 1 Chronicles 6:67-70. For “family” the plural should be read, as in Joshua 21:26.
