2 Chronicles 7:10 Summary
This verse tells us that after the big celebration and dedication of the temple, Solomon sent the people home, and they were very happy and thankful for all the good things that God had done for them. They were glad because God had been so good to their king, David, and to Solomon, and to all of the people of Israel. This reminds us that we should always be thankful for the good things that God does for us, as it says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18, and that we should rejoice and give thanks to Him for His presence and blessing in our lives, as seen in Psalm 100:4-5. We can learn from the people's example to cultivate a heart of joy and gratitude for God's goodness in our own lives.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did Solomon send the people away to their homes on the twenty-third day of the seventh month?
Solomon sent the people away after the feast and the dedication of the altar, as the celebrations had come to an end, and it was time for the people to return to their homes, joyful and glad of heart for the good things that the LORD had done for them, as seen in 2 Chronicles 7:10 and also in Deuteronomy 16:15 where it is written that the people should rejoice before the Lord.
What were the people joyful and glad of heart about?
The people were joyful and glad of heart for the good things that the LORD had done for David, for Solomon, and for His people Israel, as stated in 2 Chronicles 7:10, which reflects the promise of God's presence and blessing in 2 Chronicles 7:12 and the command to rejoice in Psalm 100:4-5.
How does this verse relate to the overall narrative of 2 Chronicles?
This verse marks the conclusion of the dedication of the temple and the feast that Solomon and the people of Israel had been celebrating, as described in 2 Chronicles 7:8-9, and it sets the stage for the LORD's appearance to Solomon in 2 Chronicles 7:12, where God affirms His presence and promises to hear Solomon's prayers.
What can we learn from the people's response to God's goodness in this verse?
We can learn that a proper response to God's goodness is joy and gratitude, as seen in the people's joyful and glad hearts, and this is a theme that is echoed throughout Scripture, such as in Psalm 107:1 and 1 Thessalonians 5:18, where we are called to give thanks to the Lord for His goodness and mercy.
