Daniel 2:43
Daniel 2:43 in Multiple Translations
As you saw the iron mixed with clay, so the peoples will mix with one another, but will not hold together any more than iron mixes with clay.
And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.
And whereas thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men; but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron doth not mingle with clay.
And as you saw the iron mixed with earth, they will give their daughters to one another as wives: but they will not be united one with another, even as iron is not mixed with earth.
In the same way that you saw the iron mixed with ordinary clay, so the people will mix but they will not stick together just as iron and clay do not mix.
And where as thou sawest yron mixt with clay and earth, they shall mingle themselues with the seede of men: but they shall not ioyne one with another, as yron can not bee mixed with clay.
Because thou hast seen iron mixed with miry clay, they are mixing themselves with the seed of men: and they are not adhering one with another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

The mixture of iron and clay in the statue shows also that the rulers of those kingdoms that separate from each other will try to form alliances with each other as a result of members of the royal families of those kingdoms marrying each other. But that will not succeed, just as iron and clay do not stick together.

Context — Daniel Interprets the Dream
43As you saw the iron mixed with clay, so the peoples will mix with one another but will not hold together any more than iron mixes with clay.
44In the days of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will shatter all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, but will itself stand forever. 45And just as you saw a stone being cut out of the mountain without human hands, and it shattered the iron, bronze, clay, silver, and gold, so the great God has told the king what will happen in the future. The dream is true, and its interpretation is trustworthy.”Daniel 2:43 Summary
This verse is saying that just like iron and clay don't mix well, people from different backgrounds and cultures will try to come together, but they won't be able to truly unite. This is because true unity can only come from God, as seen in John 17:21-23. The good news is that God is building a kingdom that will last forever, and we can be a part of it by putting our trust in Him, as seen in Daniel 2:44. By following God's principles and seeking to live a life that honors Him, we can experience true unity and harmony with others.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the mixing of iron and clay in Daniel 2:43 represent?
The mixing of iron and clay represents the blending of different peoples and cultures, but also their inability to truly unite, as seen in the inability of iron and clay to bond together, much like the kingdoms described in Daniel 2:41-42.
Is this verse talking about a specific historical event or a general principle?
While the verse is part of a larger prophecy about the rise and fall of kingdoms, the principle of peoples not holding together despite their attempts to mix and unite is a general truth that can be applied to various situations, as seen in the tower of Babel in Genesis 11:1-9.
How does this verse relate to the kingdom of God?
The inability of human kingdoms to truly unite and last is contrasted with the kingdom of God, which will be established by God Himself and will never be destroyed, as stated in Daniel 2:44 and also in Daniel 7:13-14.
What does this verse teach us about human relationships and unity?
This verse teaches us that true unity and harmony among people can only be achieved through a shared commitment to God and His principles, as seen in Psalm 133:1, rather than just trying to mix and blend different cultures and ideologies together.
