7I will appoint destroyers against you, each man with his weapons, and they will cut down the choicest of your cedars and throw them into the fire.
8And many nations will pass by this city and ask one another, ‘Why has the LORD done such a thing to this great city?’ 9Then people will reply, ‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God and have worshiped and served other gods.’”Cross References

| 2 | Isaiah 10:33–34 | Behold, the Lord GOD of Hosts will lop off the branches with terrifying power. The tall trees will be cut down, the lofty ones will be felled. He will clear the forest thickets with an axe, and Lebanon will fall before the Mighty One. |
| 3 | Jeremiah 4:6–7 | Raise a signal flag toward Zion. Seek refuge! Do not delay! For I am bringing disaster from the north, and terrible destruction. A lion has gone up from his thicket, and a destroyer of nations has set out. He has left his lair to lay waste your land. Your cities will be reduced to ruins and lie uninhabited. |

| 5 | Ezekiel 9:1–7 | Then I heard Him call out in a loud voice, saying, “Draw near, O executioners of the city, each with a weapon of destruction in hand.” And I saw six men coming from the direction of the Upper Gate, which faces north, each with a weapon of slaughter in his hand. With them was another man clothed in linen who had a writing kit at his side. And they came in and stood beside the bronze altar. Then the glory of the God of Israel rose from above the cherubim, where it had been, and moved to the threshold of the temple. And He called to the man clothed in linen who had the writing kit at his side. “Go throughout the city of Jerusalem,” said the LORD, “and put a mark on the foreheads of the men sighing and groaning over all the abominations committed there.” And as I listened, He said to the others, “Follow him through the city and start killing; do not show pity or spare anyone! Slaughter the old men, the young men and maidens, the women and children; but do not go near anyone who has the mark. Now begin at My sanctuary.” So they began with the elders who were before the temple. Then He told them, “Defile the temple and fill the courts with the slain. Go forth!” So they went out and began killing throughout the city. |
| 6 | Isaiah 13:3–5 | I have commanded My sanctified ones; I have even summoned My warriors to execute My wrath and exult in My triumph. Listen, a tumult on the mountains, like that of a great multitude! Listen, an uproar among the kingdoms, like nations gathered together! The LORD of Hosts is mobilizing an army for war. They are coming from faraway lands, from the ends of the heavens— the LORD and the weapons of His wrath— to destroy the whole country. |
| 7 | Isaiah 54:16–17 | Behold, I have created the craftsman who fans the coals into flame and forges a weapon fit for its task; and I have created the destroyer to wreak havoc. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their vindication is from Me,” declares the LORD. |

Go up against the land of Merathaim, and against the residents of Pekod. Kill them and devote them to destruction. Do all that I have commanded you,” declares the LORD. “The noise of battle is in the land— the noise of great destruction. How the hammer of the whole earth lies broken and shattered! Jeremiah 22:7 Summary
[Jeremiah 22:7 is a warning from God that He will send enemies to destroy Judah if they do not obey Him. This verse shows that God is serious about sin and will judge those who disobey Him, as seen in Deuteronomy 28:15-68. Just like the strongest trees in Judah will be cut down, our sinful ways will be destroyed if we do not turn to God. We can learn from this verse to trust in God's sovereignty and justice, and to obey His commands, as encouraged in Psalm 119:1-8 and Matthew 5:48.]
