Context — The Walls of Jericho
3March around the city with all the men of war, circling the city one time. Do this for six days.
4Have seven priests carry seven rams’ horns in front of the ark. Then on the seventh day, march around the city seven times, while the priests blow the horns. 5And when there is a long blast of the ram’s horn and you hear its sound, have all the people give a mighty shout. Then the wall of the city will collapse and all your people will charge straight into the city. ”Cross References

Joshua 6:3 Summary
[In Joshua 6:3, God tells Joshua to have the Israelites march around the city of Jericho one time for six days, which may seem like a strange instruction, but it shows us the importance of obeying God's commands, even when we don't understand the reason. This is similar to how God instructed the Israelites to follow His laws and commands in Deuteronomy 8:1-3, which would lead to their success and prosperity. By following God's instructions, we can trust that He will work everything out for our good, as promised in Romans 8:28. As we read this verse, we can reflect on how we can apply this principle of obedience and trust to our own lives, and remember that God is always with us, guiding and directing us, as seen in Joshua 1:9.]
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did God instruct Joshua to march around the city of Jericho for six days?
God's instruction to Joshua to march around Jericho for six days was a test of obedience and faith, as seen in Joshua 6:3, and it prepared the Israelites for the miraculous victory that would come on the seventh day, as promised in Joshua 6:2 and Deuteronomy 7:24.
What is the significance of marching around the city one time for six days?
Marching around the city one time for six days, as stated in Joshua 6:3, may have been a way for the Israelites to claim the city as their own, as they were following God's command, similar to how God claimed the Sabbath day as a day of rest, as seen in Exodus 20:8-11.
How does this event relate to the Israelites' trust in God?
The event of marching around Jericho demonstrates the Israelites' trust in God, as they were willing to follow His instructions, even when they seemed illogical or impossible, as seen in Joshua 6:3, and this trust is echoed in Proverbs 3:5-6, which encourages us to trust in the Lord with all our heart.
What can we learn from Joshua's obedience in this verse?
Joshua's obedience in Joshua 6:3 teaches us the importance of following God's commands, even when we do not fully understand the reason or outcome, as seen in Romans 8:28, which reminds us that God works all things together for our good.
