51 ELDERS - THEIR DUTIES
INTRODUCTION Such an important class will have very important duties; no honors to be enjoyed without great responsibilities. Their duties as specific as their qualifications.
I. WARNINGS TO ELDERS (1 Peter 5:1-3) 1. "Not of constraint," or by compulsion .
2. "Nor yet for filthy lucre, " not as a means of living .
3. "Neither as lording it over the charge."
II. ADMONITION TO ELDERS (Acts 20:28) 1. Take heed to yourselves .
2. Must rule well his own hou se.
3. Hold fast the faithful word.
4. Be example s to the flock. (1 Peter 5:3.) III. THEIR DUTIES T O THE FLOCK 1. Take heed to the flock.
2. Feed the church of God .
3. Take the oversight of the church.
4. To rule well. (1 Timothy 5:17.) 5. Watch in behalf of souls. (Hebrews 13:17.) IV. DUTIES OF OTHERS TO THE ELDERS 1. To honor them as fathers .
2. Obey them as God ’s shepherds. (Hebrews 13:17 .) 3. Recei ve not an accu sation against them. (1 Timothy 5:19.) 4. Count them worth y of double honor.
5. Imitate their faith. (Hebrews 13:7.)
