INTRODUCTION

Anything as basic as the GODHEAD deserves careful study by every child of God. Especially is this true of the neglected subject of the Holy Spirit. Moses E. Lard wrote: "An accurate scriptural view of Spiritual influence is something not hastily acquired. It requires not a little reading, much thought, and an unusual care to avoid falling into error. The most thorough investigation is not too sure to lead to the truth; while anything less is sure to miss it." It is thought by the publishers that this book will help sincere students in that "thorough investigation."

Perhaps no man in our brotherhood today is better acquainted with the BOOK than Gus Nichols. Five hours of daily study for fifty years has developed a naturally-gifted mind far beyond normal accomplishments. Many of his one hundred public discussions have dealt with errors about the Holy Spirit. By preparation and experience he stands with few peers in the ability to discuss this theme.

The Walnut Hill church in Dallas invited Gus Nichols to lecture for a week on THE NATURE AND WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. The lectures were recorded, and then care-fully edited by the author. This combined the fine qualities of a prepared manuscript and the fluency and appeal of an oral sermon. Thus, this volume is able to present a difficult subject in an "easy-to-read" and enlightening manner.

May the Lord bless the reader and his study of the Holy Spirit.
