00.2. Preface
PREFACE When the Queen of Sheba visited the King of Israel “to prove him with hard questions” Solomon “told her all her questions: there was not any thing hid from the King which he told her not” (1 Kings 10:1-3). I have not always been able to answer all questions to the satisfaction of my questioners. Often I have had to resort to the frank reply, “I do not know.” And yet it has been my privilege through the years, according to the testimony of some of God’s children, to give them some help in the dissolving of their doubts and the solution of their problems. The present volume presents an accumulation of questions and answers on Bible subjects, gathered in part from my personal correspondence files, and in part from my editorial work. For several years, while Dean of the Philadelphia School of the Bible and Editor of Serving-and-Waiting, its official organ, I conducted a “Question Box” in the magazine. For such matter as has been gathered from that source, grateful acknowledgment is hereby made. Beginning in 1928 I published a personal magazine called Just a Word, and much of the matter used in this book comes from its columns.
And, above all, I give thanks to God for the high and holy privilege of ministering in His Word among His beloved and blood-bought children. May it please Him to use this testimony for the glory of the name which is above every name, even the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!
“Blessing, and honor, and glory, and power, be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb forever and ever!”
