Lost was I

1 min read · Chapter 137 of 192
Lost was I and help-less, dam-na-tion de-served, Yet in my proud mind, thought 'twould nev-er be served. No cares for my God, no con-cerns for my pride, My sin I would keep -- knew no rea-son to hide! But God, rich in mer-cy and grace all di-vine, Had cho-sen to save me, de-spite my de-signs. He said he would love me and make me His son, For rea-sons un-known -- ex-pla-na-tions I've none. To save me He paid such an in-fi-nite cost -- His dear Son from glo-ry He sent to my cross! Laid all my sin on Him and pun-ished Him there, For me, who for Him would not ever have cared! Then to me He came, and with o'er-whelm-ing grace He drew me to Him Who had tak-en my place. I saw then in Him the great Sav-ior a-lone, Went run-ning to take Him and make Him my own. He took me, and oh, with what glad-ness I find -- He loves me and leads me with gen-tle-ness kind! What mer-cy, what love, and what grace oh, so free! My God, un-to Thee shall my praise ev-er be!
