Adoption 1 BEHOLD what wondrous grace The Father hath bestow'd On sinners of a mortal race. To call them sons of God!

2 'Tis no surprising thing, That we should be unknown: The Jewish world knew not their King, God's everlasting Son.

3 Nor doth it yet appear How great we must be made, But when we see our Saviour here, We shall be like our Head.

4 A hope so much divine May trials well endure, May purge our souls from sense and sin, As Christ the Lord is pure.

5 If in my Father's love, I share a filial part, Send down Thy Spirit, like a dove. To rest upon my heart.

6 We would no longer lie Like slaves beneath the throne; My faith shall Abba Father cry, And Thou the kindred own.

Isaac Watts, 1709.

729 Sons of God blessed 1 BLESSED are the sons of God;

They are bought with Jesus' blood, They are ransom'd from the grave, Life eternal they shall have. With them number'd may we be, Now and through eternity.

2 God did love them in His Son, Long before the world begun;

They the seal of this receive, When on Jesus they believe:

3 They are justified by grace, They enjoy a solid peace;

All their sins are wash'd away, They shall stand in God's great day.

With, &c.

4 They produce the fruits of grace In the works of righteousness!

Born of God, they hate all sin, God's pure word remains within:

With, &c.

5 They have fellowship with God, Through the Mediator's blood;

One with God, through Jesus one, Glory is in them begun:

6 Though they suffer much on earth, Strangers to the worldling's mirth, Yet they have an inward joy, Pleasures which can never cloy: With them number'd may we be.

Now and through eternity!

Joseph Humphreys, 1743.
