128 The Good Confession
The Good Confession THIRD YEAR—SUBJECT 21 The Good Confession (READ Romans 10) 1. Who must confess Christ? Php 2:11.
2. Why must we confess him? Matthew 10:32.
3. Who first made the confession? Matthew 3:17.
4. Before whom did Christ make it? 1 Timothy 6:13.
5. When did Peter make it? Matthew 16:16.
6. When are we to make it? Acts 8:36.
7. Is it before or after salvation? Romans 10:8-10. In following up the scheme of redemption we have learned that a man must hear God’s word, have faith in Christ, repent of his sins. Now follows the confession, which must precede salvation, according to Paul in Romans 10:10.
We notice that God requires a man to confess Christ and not himself. He must make this confession UNTO and never BECAUSE OF salvation. In Acts 8 we find this confession was required as a requisite to baptism. If some claim that Acts 8:37 is spurious, still that does not change the truthful¬ness of the confession, as Jesus taught it by example by making it before Pilate and Paul teaches it must precede salvation.
QUESTIONS 1. Who first made the confession?
2. Who acknowledged it before Pilate?
3. What blessing was pronounced upon Peter for making it?
4. What did John’s converts confess? Mark 1:5.
5. If we are ashamed to make it, what does Christ say?
6. Why not make it because of salvation instead of unto salvation? 2 Timothy 2:5.
