116. Why should we tell God our needs when He knows them beforehand?

Why should we tell God our needs when He knows them beforehand?

Because He has told us to do so (Php 4:6), and because in this way we are taught what we most need to know—our absolute dependence upon God. There are many things that even an earthly father would give his children if they asked for them, which he would not give them if they did not ask for them. It is for the good of the children that they be required to ask. I for one am very glad that there are some things that God has withheld from me until I ask for them.
