1 Chronicles 19
AOSN1 Chronicles 19:1-7
The new Ammonite ruler, Hanun, opposed Israel being near his nation. The Ammonites hired Aramean armies from the north. These combined forces gathered at Medeba to challenge David's control of Moab's plateau.
1 Chronicles 19:9-13
The enemy armies set up their battle lines carefully. The Ammonites positioned themselves so that the city of Medeba could be a safe place. Meanwhile, the Israelites faced a second attack from the Arameans. Joab split his forces to fight on both sides from a central gathering point.
1 Chronicles 19:13
Joab understood that the battle aimed to protect the people and cities of Israel from invasion, not to gain more land (see 1 Chronicles 19:8).
Joab trusted God, believing the outcome relied on the Lord's guidance.
1 Chronicles 19:16-19
In the battle against the Arameans, David achieved three goals:
He challenged Hadadezer's power
He disrupted the Aramean alliance
He stopped any future alliance between the Arameans and the Ammonites
