Jeremiah 32:1

D. The City to Be Rebuilt (Chap. 32)32:1-5 The Babylonians were now besieging the city. Zedekiah had imprisoned Jeremiah . . . in the court of the prison for predicting success for the Babylonians. In verse 4 is one of three prophecies that were uttered concerning Zedekiah. Here it says that he would see the king of Babylon . . . face to face. In Eze_12:13 we read that he would not see Babylon and that he would die in Babylon. Here is how these seemingly contradictory prophecies were fulfilled: Nebuchadnezzar put out Zedekiah’s eyes in Riblah, in the land of Hamath (2Ki_25:7). Then Zedekiah was taken to Babylon, but he never saw Babylon (his eyes having been put out) and he died there. 32:6-25 In obedience to the Lord, the prophet purchased his cousin Hanamel’s field . . . in Anathoth for seventeen shekels of silver. (Hanamel had come to him with the offer.) This was an assurance to the people that God would bring them back from Babylon. Both of the deeds were given to Baruch for safekeeping in an earthen vessel. As he watches the Babylonians besieging Jerusalem, Jeremiah wonders why God told him to buy the field in Anathoth. 32:26-44 The Lord’s answer to Jeremiah is classic: “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?“The Savior can solve every problem, The tangles of life can undo. There’s nothing too hard for Jesus; There’s nothing that He cannot do. Author unknownAlthough God will destroy Jerusalem because of the idolatry of the people, yet He will later gather His own and bless them greatly. Property will be bought and sold again, and thus the deed to the field of Anathoth will still be valid in a coming day.
