Jeremiah 37:1

  1. Jeremiah Imprisoned and Interviewed by Zedekiah (Chaps. 37, 38)37:1-10 Though King Zedekiah, a vassal ruler under Nebuchadnezzar, gave no heed to Jeremiah’s words, still he asked the prophet to pray . . . for him and his followers. When the Egyptian army came to assist Judah, the Chaldeans (Babylonians) left Jerusalem to repel them. Jeremiah sent word to Zedekiah that the Babylonians would come back to destroy Jerusalem. Even if Zedekiah could reduce the Chaldean army to a remnant of wounded men, they would still succeed in burning the city. 37:11-21 As Jeremiah was leaving Jerusalem on a personal errand, he was arrested and imprisoned in a dungeon on a charge of desertion. After many days, Zedekiah called for him to hear what the LORD had to say. Jeremiah courageously announced that the Babylonians would capture the city and the king. Then he asked for release from prison and the request was granted. He was committed to the court of the prison.
