Jeremiah 39:1

  1. The Fall of Jerusalem (Chap. 39)39:1-10 When Jerusalem was taken by the Babylonians (586 B.C.), Zedekiah, his sons, and his men of war tried to flee but were captured and taken to Riblah. The king’s sons were killed, his own eyes were put out, and he was taken into captivity. The city was destroyed and only the poor of the people were left in the land. 39:11-14 Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, gave instructions through Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard that Jeremiah should be well-treated. So the prophet was released from the court of the prison and entrusted to Gedaliah. 39:15-18 Ebed-Melech, the Ethiopian eunuch, had previously been promised safety by the Lord. Presumably he obtained deliverance at this time. Chronologically verses 15-18 fit after Jer_38:13.
